Regarding tyrannosaurs and teeth
« on: July 21, 2011, 11:47:38 pm »

Hello. New to modding and the forums and general. Anyway, I modded in a T rex.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Is it possible to make its teeth out of steel?
I know the bronze colossus is made of metal, but I want to make just its teeth and claws out of steel.
Also, has anybody else made any dinosaurs? I think a Jurassic Park mod or something like that would be cool and considerably more difficult than vanilla dwarf fortress.

EDIT: I think I got the teeth and claws changed to steel. However, when I had a rex fight a dragon in arena mode, the rex's biting attacks "passed right through". Anybody know what that means? Your help is much appreciated.

You'd probably need to change the Nail template; I think, anyway. Don't know how you'd go about doing that, though...

There was one dinosaur mod, where the dinosaurs can seriously mess your shit up. Enemy civs were raptors, T rexes and brontosauruses were megabeasts. You had very primitive weapons, and the enemies had tough skin to pierce. Sadly it was in 40d. I'll go hunt down a link.

I added these in to the tissue template file. I think this should work, but I don't know how to implement this
into the tyrannosaur's file.

[TISSUE_TEMPLATE:STEEL_NAIL_TEMPLATE]
   [TISSUE_NAME:steel nail:NP]
   [STRUCTURAL]
   [TISSUE_MATERIAL:INORGANIC:STEEL]
   [RELATIVE_THICKNESS:2]
   [CONNECTS]
   [TISSUE_SHAPE:LAYER]

[TISSUE_TEMPLATE:STEEL_TOOTH_TEMPLATE]
   [TISSUE_NAME:steel tooth:NP]
   [STRUCTURAL]
   [TISSUE_MATERIAL:INORGANIC:STEEL]
   [RELATIVE_THICKNESS:2]
   [CONNECTS]
   [TISSUE_SHAPE:LAYER]

This sounds really awesome.

Found it.
Wow. That is absolutely delicious. If I wasn't such a terrible modder, I'd try to remake it in .31.

Maybe someone should contact Deon or someone. Most of the work is done, it just needs to bfe updated with eggs and stuff.

Here's the 40d Tyrannosaur for reference:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It seems that mostly the attacks are different, but a lot of stuff would need to be added.

Doubt anybody is watching this thread anymore, but I made a compsognathus and a deinonychus if anybody is interested.
The compys are a bit overpowered now, given the fact that a pack can take down a t. rex. Oh well.

Ooh, if it weren't for lack of time IRL I would love to update this for .31. It would be so easy as the only things I haven't mastered in raw modding are workshops and reactions.

EDIT: If anyone wants help doing the technical side of this, such as tissue modifications and such, just PM me and I'll get back to you ASAP.
