100% all-male race?

I've got this amazing idea and I quickly need to know if there's a way to make a 100% male race. didn't find anything by searching.

You can certainly make a race with no female caste.  They will die out in worldgen, since they can't reproduce without females.  Creatures in DF need both males and females to reproduce, there's no way around that.

You can certainly make a race with no female caste.  They will die out in worldgen, since they can't reproduce without females.  Creatures in DF need both males and females to reproduce, there's no way around that.

So if I embark on year 5 or something, I'll be alright? Will I receive migrants?

So long as a creature has both a male and female caste they wont die out in world gen. This is even the case if either of the castes is so rare you practically never see them in fort mode. Just set the males to have [POP_RATIO:1] and females [POP_RATIO:x] where x is some stupidly high number.

I don't think it works that way. With POP_RATIO:1 for females, there won't be a constant stream of children to replace the old and deceased. It's better to use elves as the base point, because they never die.

That's what I thought but the Zelda Mod has a Gerudo entity that is set up like I described above and they work fine.

It is also possible if you want to get close to an acceptable thing with castes. Say for example if you create dryads that are all females and story wise they are supposed to have children with travelers, then you could create castes that were defined as "travelers" and weren't the same as the dryads. Sure you would then have the problem of travelers being born from dryads but that is really the only way to have a race that is all one gender but still survives through world gen.

If we did have 100% male-only races reproducing, we're gonna see alot of people making gay dwarves.

The Gerudo in the Zelda mod are a prime example of why something like this would be desirable. In case you don't know they are only supposed to give birth to a male once in a hundred years.

I've modded my female dwarves to have beards and to have a lower birth rate in line with Tolkien's dwarves.

The only jobs I don't like having females doing are military ones. This is because of how they neglect their babies by running head long into battle holding them. Removing females solves this problem but then I'd suggest turning off births in fort mode for that.
