Foreword
This is not an RTD.
Ever been afraid to introduce a new mechanic? Every wanted to have some mass combat but you aren't sure exactly what it would do? Well fear no more!
This is a test space where non-canon frames for RTDs can be put up, run through, and commented on. Unlike the rollers block thread (Which concerns itself with the idea) this thread concerns itself entirely with mechanics. It is also a suppository of kno-
hang on, that's not right at all... Hmm Ah yes... *Ahem* It is also
repository of knowledge, containing all the data from past tests in an easy use format.
Here you are free to take up several posts to run turns to see if something will work, you are also able to hire test subjects (Hopefully) who will act as temporary players to bug test your ideas.
Below there is a system to register for testing, (Painless I assure you, it's more just so I can update your "tags" in order to separate your post from the others.) a place to register as a designated test subject, a list of current tests and their "tags" along with their open positions for test subjects, a list of current test subjects, and a list of all of the tests that have been run.
Registering For Testing (For GMs and GMs to be)
NOTE: This only Applies if you need test subjects, If you don't require any people for a test then you can feel free to run your test immediately, once you've run it I'll log the link to it into the "Test Log" section for other people to view.
Right, now this is a step of convenience. When you want to test something just post what you're going to test, the number of players you require for testing, and what color you're going to use for the text in the test. That done I'll add you into the "Current Tests" section of this post along with your name, the type of test, a direct link to the first post of your test, your tag (The color you use for the test text), and the number of players you require.
For the sake of my remaining sanity (Yes Serious and Taricus, you haven't burned it all up yet) I would appreciate it if you would use this form.
Scientist: (Your Name Here)
Test Name: (Name of Test)
Test Type: (Combat, Socialistics, Stealth, Magic, Puzzle, etc)
Required Number Of Subjects: (Try to keep it below ten)
Rolls to be filled: (Something like X Frogs, Y Cats, and a Z turkey hens.)
Tag: (Pick a Color, any color. -That isn't already being used in an active test- [Also, try to pick a color that doesn't make people want to gouge the eyeballs from their skulls when they read it.])
Goal: (What the hell you're trying to test.)
Becoming a Test Subject
Being in an RTD is fun, this is like that, except you don't have to go through the bother of creating a character persona, you just kick butt, negotiate deal, escape from a triple locked safe underwater, or whatever the test of the week requires, or you die trying. Of course dying painfully while attempting to do those things seems a bit more likely, but that's your job.
To register as a test subject just say
OOH OOH PICK ME! in big, bold text along with how many concurrent tests you think you can handle. After you're on the list you'll be assigned to tests, or you can volunteer directly to a test if you're really keen on a particular one.

Test 2a!!Scientist!!: Schilcote
Test Name: Analysis Of Puzzle-Solving Ability Of The Average RTDing Party
Test Type: Puzzle
Tag: GreenisGoal: To attempt to ascertain the ability of an average RTDing party to solve puzzles of varying difficulty, and generate data which can be used to guess how long it will take for a puzzle of a certain difficulty to be solved by the party.
Link to Post: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=89348.msg2501288#msg2501288Resolution: Abandoned by scientist.
Closing Notes: Testing limited, players appeared to be par or ahead of the expected level of capability. Only two tests were run on a group of four players, vastly limiting the use of the experiment. Further testing, more subjects, and different types of experiment my be beneficial. The creator of this thread also recommends looking at the
Riddle me This thread, for additional edification on the problem solving capabilities of the Bay Twelver. Riddles are neither formatted or of uniform difficulty, but it may be useful.
