Inexperianced Liberal Leader, looking for fodder
« on: July 20, 2011, 07:15:05 pm »

Hi guys, long time DF player, and only just found this game, and it looks pretty sweet :D

Anyway, I have only just started playing LCS, and thought: "It is always fun to lose, but if I am experianced enough, I will never lose :(" Therefore, I am going to do a very quick playthrough. I will complete one month a day, and every day try and put up an update on how the little liberals are doing. If you think 1 month a day is slow .... it probably is, but my previous games have never actually reached March. This one will last a little longer, I presume. And it can always change over time!

You guys, if you don't feel like lurking, are free to 'claim' those liberals, and tell me what you want them to do. Those people that you control probably have a higher lifespan than the ones I control directly, simply because, well, I suck. I have played a grand total of 3 games, and two were on the last Toady release (3.09 or something). My sole 4.04 game ended rather sadly after I was shot trying to escape the police. The reason for this execution? I was tagging, in a non-nightmare USA >.>

But lets see how long a liberal leader who has barely learned how to raze a flag and heal squadmates without having them out of action for 2 months can cope in the dark world of corporate USA...

Reccomendations for settings? I will probably randomize up a charactor (as that is the funnest way to start, I think ;) ), but should we enable nightmare mode, we didn't start the fire, classic mode (I doubt it :P), Democrat mode, or that elite liberal setting that requires 100% completion??

Oh, and one quick question: What determines the 'cap' of a skill? For example, if I have 10/10 persuasion (being the skill that ALWAYS maxes out, as I can't seem to score in 4.04 :( ), how do I boost that to 11?? Is it linked to my charisma score (which I think boosts up whenever I get enough Juice to level up)?

Looks cool, and the cap for your skill is determined by your stats. Which can be increased by getting more juice.

Well.... nothing like a 2 month test run. Onwards .... towards the nightmare

I guess I am going to be as cautious as possible >.>

At least the "no compromise classic" isn't really challenging. It mainly reduces waiting in the endgame.

Diary of Heather "Release" Downing.

January 1: I find myself surrounded by thugs. Thugs not really that interested in the true liberal agenda ... but they have been with me through think and thin, and I trust them with my life. But after that raid by the Death-squad ... our old gang. It was terrible.

But now ... now we fight back. It seems as if they aren't looking for me, but my friends have still got a bad rap sheet that hangs over their heads. They are keen to start general looting ... and I don't think I can stop them. But I plan to make a safe-house ... a place free of crime ... a legitimate operation. It will keep our new gang alive, through the tough times, I hope. And of course, if I get locked up, there is always Lional. Dear, dear Lional.

But as I have lost all my old diaries, I guess I better re-write my life story. When the corporations are thrust out of power, and books like these are no longer illegal to hold, I expect people will want to know everything about me. About me, and my liberal followers. So here goes.

But ... the world is dark. As I write the goals we need to achieve, I cannot think of a more dystopian future.

But when I was 18, I met 4 guys, all whom seem to like me, and all who are loyal to me. I have proven myself time and time again to them, and earned thier loyalty ... but I hope over the next few months I can keep it...

And how can I forget my greatest love, Lionel. We have been dating for 8 years. Pretty long ... too long if you ask me. But he has my back if ever I get into trouble with the law, and I know that *I* can't defend myself in a court of law. But in the current political climate, I doubt he could either...

I need to boost our numbers. I need a computer whiz to ensure that we become notorious, and pick the best sites for our raids. And we need a steady supply of legitimate money, so that means I need a musician or a painter. The boys really want a car, but that will have to wait. First ... recruiting. The other boys can do community service in order to stay undercover ... for now.

The Boys are off to one of our safe-houses: An abandoned meat factory, so that I can set up the crack house and renovate it as a legitimate business. Fun times!

As for me.... it is off to the Latte Stand to see if I can recruit a few more followers to the fray.

2nd January: Well. The meetings went well. I found 6 fellow liberals in this dangerous world, 5 mutants and a prostitute. Tawanda and Dana, two of the mutants, wasn't so keen on activism, but the other four are coming today. Unfortunately, it just seems no-one is keen to join our gang, just the dregs of society.

Regardless, Ill see if one of the mutants has 'special' powers we can use. They might give us a breather.

3rd January: Started talking with two hippies. I strongly doubt they will be helpful in this cause, but you never know. I have started fundraising, while I hear the boys have been having fun spraying businessmen with green goo. Probably got it out of the river, no doubt. So much for community service!!

4th January: Two of the mutants came out of the woodwork with their 'abilities'. They were completely useless. However, Tiffany, the prostitute, has joined our ranks. At the very least, she will be a beacon of womens rights in the 21st century!

6th January: Hired the sixth person of our squad. It was tough, but I think I will be able to manage them all. It wasn't a mutant... but a hippie with high street-sense and persuasion. Over time, she will become a great leader. I hope. Good luck ... Noel.

7th January: Noel signed up with the Womans Lib, and is helping Tiffany with the chaos she is making. But the Boys are getting restless ... they want to make real action. So I am going out to get a car now.

9th January: F<Censored for conservative eyes>ing hell! That was close! I managed to get hot-wire a SUV, but as soon as I pulled out, sirens blared behind me, and I saw the cold eyes of  a Death Squad traffic police. I knew pulling over and surrendering myself to the law wasn't an option, and I couldn't fight them barehanded and unarmored, so I was forced to flee, through oncoming traffic.

Well, I am still writing this, so you know that I survived! It was harrowing though. This car is definitely going to the boys though...

10th January: Ned and Collin were ballsy today ... they robbed  a chemical factory!!

I have asked our best hacker, Hilary, to find good sites for those boys. They have promised me that they will not try to get killed, but I am not sure they are safe...

11th January: Apathetic dogs. That is the state of the nation, no-one really cares anymore. The president has 75% approval, and less than 20% of people actually care about freeing the mind.

Oh, and Tiffany managed to get herself tangled up in the cops. Death squad officers. She tried to flee ... but after she darted into an alley ... we never heard from her again. I doubt she is still alive, but Lionel is still trying to find out what is happening.

Shane is her 'replacement'. Apparently he wants to embezzle funds for our cause. Handy ... we need money for guns, ammo, and armor!

13th January: Awesome. Apparently my little band of miscreants are trying to break into the garment factory. And the easiest way to do that.... streaking all the way there. There has never been a more liberal way of living, I think. I fear these people have taken on the liberal philosophy even more than me!!

16th January: The two criminals are now wanting to start their own little sub-group of liberals ... far more active than my softly-softly approach. Both have scattered to find a caring mutant...

18th January: Apparently Ned found a super-mutant: Dwayne Delaney! I hope he comes in ....

In other news, the new recruitment cost us $150 ... we aren't making that much cash!!

21st January: Finally, Dwayne has joined us. He isn't a 'super' mutant, but at least he is not pitifully weak. He is a decent fighter, and knows basic first aid, which is going to help the gang.

Now, apparently, they are going to 'liberate' a sweatshop worker. They need a bunch of security suits, and have the cloth to do it. Hah! Those clever dogs.

22nd January: Nope. Apparently, they are trying to convert a *real* super-mutant: Dawn!

24th January: Dawn has joined The Criminals. This is good for two reasons: The first being that it means that we can finally start stockpiling money, and the second means we may be able to capitalize on the most recent development: A new news anchor on the local radio station. Obviously, this is a sign that we need to make a serious raid today. Pity we don't have those suits yet.

I heard on the radio.... it was a massacre. They were quickly discovered, and managed to shoot their way through to the radio station. They picked up the security guards ammo, and crawled their way to the broadcast region. Unfortunately, an angry mob formed up, and they had to retreat, taking heavy losses on the way.

Dwayne was the first, his tough hide and security armor was no contest to a very strong hick. The others made it to the final corridor, but couldn't make the final 50 meters ...

They apparently stuck together, Dwayne being carried by someone .... the news report never said who. They just mentioned a mutant being hauled, his sickly red blood on that heroes shirt. The entire station was shot up, and at least a dozen, maybe up to 3 dozen people died in that fight. Why they continued to fight even though the mission was a failure ... that shows true liberalism.

Our flags fly at half-mast today. America must mourn these people. They *WILL* mourn them.

I presume they fought because thought they were close to the broadcast cameras ... I never knew if they did [OOC: They made it to about the middle of the map. When I noticed it wasn't in the direct middle of the map, I presumed that either it was upstairs, or at the bottom, in either case, it would be impossible to make it all the way there. So I retreated ... and lost four liberals. For the cause ... I was expecting to lose them, but would have LOVED to get to the broadcast node to massively sway opinion. I presume a shootout will harm opinion, if that is possible.

Didn't expect the hicks to be armed. Dang TVTrope liers >.> Oh, and also, they must have really got tons of juice from that raid, as my leader just leveled up!?[/OOC]

I guess I need replacements...

Their deaths fuel the fire....

25th January: When going out to look for recruits, I noticed a huge police barricade around the cable station. Apparently my friends deaths were not in vain, but they have closed down that place of conservative <Censored>

I managed to find a hippie, 4 mutants, and .... a liberal judge! He is interested in what we have to say ....

But the internet is abuzz with our actions. EVERYONE is in awe of our power ... but we don't know if that is "please protect us conservative death squads" or the good kind of fear. The hopeful kind that we will be able to overthrow them. And 69% of people don't actually like cable news!

Regardless, the police are likely to crack down on us, so we need to move quickly to make those clothes we need...

26th January: Yes. They like us. Or rather, 60% of people hold us in high regard!!

27th January: Noel joined us today, as did the judge

29th January: THE FOOL!! Noel died today, after liberating some workers, and hoping they would join us. The problem? Apparently he did it RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CEO!! We need to get our hands free of this hot property, so I guess I will do it myself tomorrow. There is no other alternative. I will just have to be very careful...

30th January: Failed mission, but on the plus side, Valaryer Myers has signed up! She will be our artist.

31st January: Finally! I managed to liberate a sweatshop worker, and he has joined the cause. He isn't pumped about our goals, however, and could be a liability in the future. Regardless, I will move him to the meat hideout, and let him get to work making security gear. He isn't the best tailor, but is better than anyone I have ever met!!

1st February: The first Liberal Crime Squad is meeting today. I got an advance copy of the current list of opinion polls. We seem reasonably safe for now, and with the exception of the new tailor, all the crew is pumped :D

Here is a complete set of images for this month.

This is a HUGE file: 274KB, and 1440x4412 in size. Thus, the thumbnail. Click it to view.

In the future, I will be reducing what I say. I think the only things that need to be said are:

* Successful recruits
* Raids where people get killed
* Newspaper reports
* Random events
* Political changes.
* Significant level ups

You guys savvy with that? Hope it would take less time to write and save images too ;)

I'll pass on claiming someone until you get a new Doctor, but I'll still follow this epic story of your Liberals. I've only completed the game once now, and it was a long ardous process with several arrests in which I lost all my liberals but my leader. This game is bloody hard xD

I'd like Noel Helton, nicknamed 'Ehndras', who will be an interrogator and writer. ;) You can change her to a male too if you ever find the command for that.

Anything you want to do something over the next month guys?

My personal plans (which you can override) are:

Shepard: Use up the supply of 19 (!) Fine Cloth we have stored away, and make as many high-quality security uniforms as I can. For the remaining 11 days, I will try and get him to do community service / Liberal Activism (although in 3.09 they decided to play shell games and sell thier bodies instead of gaining juice >.>) The last thing I need is Shepard getting arrested for being an alien (he was the sweatshop worker!), and ratting us out to the Death squads...

Hillary and Antonio have been quietly spraying people with paint and posting posters for the past month (thus, the high juice they both have). I am a little surprised they haven't been arrested / slaughtered yet, but I guess they will continue to cause mild activism until the point where they level up to allow thier own followers. Then I guess they go into hard crime, hopefully getting a gun (or stealing stuff until they can afford a gun), and finally killing whatever conservatives support the death squads (I HATE THOSE GUYS. So long as they are active, Lionel can't exercise his ~8 Intellagence / 7 Law :( )

Noel is in the Womens Lib, and will continue to gain juice until she can get her own follower, whereupon she will continue to use her street sense in causing havoc. (Unfortunatly, AFAIK from my memory, I can't train street sense from just spraying paint. I will have to check that, and work out how to improve her street sense)

Shane is the computer geek of the squad. He has been hacking credit card details to keep up with our MASSIVE recruiting budget, but now is just also causing havoc on the interwebs.

Valaria will either tag (if her high sneak and dodge helps her outrun death squads) or sell paintings (to help our sad, sad budget)

I think we have one recruitment slot open, and that will either be a doctor, or a high-security car thief (ATM, we don't *actually* have a car, because I (probably foolishly) lost it in the Cable News raid. And after the near-death experiance with death squads, I don't want to lose "Release", as everyone is counting on her. And she will just recruit all month, keeping the numbers up, and legally fundraising in our 'legitimate buisnessperson's hideout club'. Irregardless, we have 3 slots within 5-10 days opening up, and I don't think Shepard will stick around long, being an illegal alien in a country with no privacy and who push aliens out of the country at gunpoint.
