GUI: Dwarf's assigned burrows list
« on: July 20, 2011, 08:11:02 am »

Burrows are pretty great, I must say. It's my number one defense against tantrum spirals and it makes it over all easier to control certain parts of the production line.

However, it can be really tedious when you start expanding into multiple burrows where some dorfs are assigned to two or more of them.
It's hard to remember which dwarf is assigned to which burrows once you go past 60 inhabitants, and not to mention the mile long roster to mangle through each time you want to assign that slacker dwarf who just ran past you.

My suggestion is fairly simple. In the v-p menu where there currently is "l : Labor " & "e : Work dogs", there should be an additional option for burrows "b : Burrows".
Selecting it would bring up a list of all the burrows and you can toggle each burrow on or off. That would make assigning burrows easy as pie!

(I did try to search for a similar suggestion, but none found. Apologies in advance if there is. )

The GUI needs an overhaul, that's for sure. I mean, you can use it, and I don't mind the keys-only navigation,
but there's so much inconsistencies and straight down clumsy things. Not being able to sort name lists is another thing.
Finding the single dorf you want to recruit to your squad by grinding through 100+ long list would be made so much easier if it was alphabetical instead.
Or even more so if you could sort it by military skills, and have them show up when you select.
We all know a ton of GUI things that are just bad and actually kill the game a little.

I am convinced the the bad GUI deters most of the people trying out the game too.

why not also make it have a social-sicko effect? like the segregation from those white supremation bitches? i mean having for too long some dorfs in a burrow should have some impact on their social and psicological life?

Not quite a part of the GUI question though, but what the hey... Some of it is already taking place. Like when a dwarf is in a burrow together with one that it finds annoying, it'll get bad thoughts when
it has to talk to the annoying one, which will be more often when occupying the same little burrow.
Maybe it'd be an idea adding a bad thought from not seeing a friend in a long time, or not meeting anyone new, could also trigger a bad thought, depending on social preferences.

Excelent suggestion. I currently resign myself to using a single burrow to keep dwarves safe, which undermines the full potential of burrows.
