So I finally decided to actually PLAY this mod, since I felt in the mood for DF again. What followed was the most fun[And best story] I've ever experienced in Adventure Mode, narrated in first person.
When my adventure begant I was a Teal-Blooded Legislacerater in a small Trollish hamlet. I was named Ervara Samana[Hammer Justice, literally] and my abstratus was Hammerkind[Such creativity wow]. I asked the Mayor[Not THAT Mayor, but still A Mayor] about what my first assignment would be. He asked me to bring the Sovereign Slayer to justice. A worthy goal, but... Maybe later? He also told me about a group of bandits and a cave of Imps. I found an armoury in the Mayor's fortress and confiscated the weapons and armour to turn into grist for PROPER equipment for a Legislacerater on the rise: A full set of Tier 1 armour and a Tier 1 Hammer[Much more professional then those silly looking clubs His Honorable Tyranny issued me] After looking for allies amongst the low-blooded peasantry, I eventually found a Brown-Blooded fellow Legislacerater with an axe to grind to follow me in my quest to bring justice[With a hammer, obviously] to the villains terrorizing the countryside.
Together, we set off to the Imp cave, judging it to be the closest and most trivial of our three tasks. While there were a few Imps nearby, which we easily dispatched for useful grist, the cave turned out to have no entrance at all, which made the rest of our first task impossible. After conferring with my low-blooded colleague, we decided to seek out the bandit camp we'd been dispatched to deal with.
After a perilous river crossing, we happened upon them with half of their number asleep. There was no quarter given. Thus is the justice of Alternia. We fell upon them, hacking and bashing at sleeping forms. All in all, twelve sleeping bandits fell to our weapons before the rest could react. A small group of more alert bandits gave me some trouble while my comrade charged their leader: a Pikemaster of some renown. While my fellow Legislacerator was skilled, he was not skilled enough. While I was entangled with his minions, the Pikemaster eviscerated him, taking out his leg and weapon arm in short order. As the last of the bandits assaulting me fell, the Pikemaster impaled the poor brown-blood through the chest with the pike. But that was his mistake.
Ervare Samana the Hammerkind User has become enraged!
With his weapon embedded inside my friends chest, he could not react fast enough. My first hammer strike crushed his weapon hand into pulp. The second one caved his skull in. Justice had been served. But at what cost? A fellow Legislacerater dead, sacrificed to delay the Pikemaster. And he was not a Player like me, unable to be revived with a kiss. Although... It couldn't hurt to try.
This was no time for tears, I told myself firmly. It is time for duty. I gathered up the arms and armour of my fallen ally and his enemies and rendered them down into grist, the familiar alchemy soothing me. I alchemized a great hammer from the pike that had killed my friend and superior armour from our victims. There was still one task yet to be done, one miscreant to be brought to justice. And if I died in the process, as my poor comrade had? I felt that I didn't really care anymore. In troll culture, it is customary to choose a new name after a great deed has been done. To say that what hapened here was not a great deed would be a great disrespect to the dead. I am no longer Ervara Samana. I am the Honest Kindness, a title I wish I deserved as much as my comrade did. Alchemized armour plated, lips covered in brown except where teal streaked through it like meteors, I strode into the sunrise. There was still justice to be done.
After a long journey, I finally arrived at the Sovereign Slayer's place of rest: A foul labyrinth. I started to open the door to it and then stopped.
"Is is true, that the S♥vereign Slayer p♥ssesses the ability t♥ telep♥rt great distances in an eyeblink?"
The faint whistle of a sword blade as it was swung towards me was anwser enough. I jumped out of the way, rolled and swung with my full might at the Sovereign Slayer, his sneak attack foiled. He casually parried my swing, cutting through Tier 3 Alchemized Steel as if it were grub sauce.
Then he stabbed me through the chest.
You know, he said, that makes nearly a hundred people like me he's killed like this. Self defense. He adds that its almost unprofessional to have so many legally justified killings. Bad for his reputation.
"Y♥U didn't kill me, Slayer. An♥ther had THAT h♥n♥r. A while ag♥, actua"
[Author's note: This character actually died to bogeymen en route to the Sovereign Slayer. As the end result, a suicidal curb stomp battle, would have hapened if I HAD made it all the way to him. I thought it was better for the story if it hapened this way, personally.]
Troll mode yet. This promises to be fun.
FAKEDIT: Hey, random modding idea: Is it possible to put Denizens at the core of the planet, instead of HFS and co? If so, would it be a good idea, thematically and mechanically?
