The fights about this expansion are interesting basically there are two camps

1) This expansion sucks, there isn't that much content, what is there breaks the game over its knee, and it makes the game a bit more tedious... ohh and the modding tools are lacking.
2) You guys are being unfair to the expansion and are holding it to unfair standards. It is SUPPOSED to suck!

And no I am not misrepresenting the second group... It is WEIRD. One guy argued that the expansion is meant to be the modding tools and everything else is just bonus.

Though I guess to be fair here is the third group

3) ANTI-Birth is better! get Anti-birth! did we mention antibirth? GET IT!!! GET IT AHH!

:P

---

To admit though... this is one of the few times the negative reviews SEEM more... sensible then the positive ones. (as a whole. I am going to blanket here, but remember this isn't all of them)

Talking about the careful balance and giving examples of where the game threw a wrench in them... even giving frame counts of previous content and comparing it to the new stuff.

Then the positive ones which are more about how this DLC isn't meant to do anything.

THEN AGAIN! I haven't played this... and I've certainly seen seemingly sensible arguments against a game that are nuts upon closer scrutiny. Heck the idea that the portals are inherently unfair I don't think is accurate... though they sure as heck aren't balanced.

---

Anyhow looking at the complaints... If they are accurate... wait for a patch.

The difficulty hit the unfair levels pretty hard.

Edit: Nevermind... the negative comments and reviews I've been seeing so far are 10x more seemingly reasonable. Then again I didn't check Steam Chat. What is this craziness? why are we in negative world?

I think it's a little bit buggy and tuned wrong, but that's to be expected. It was the same with Afterbirth when that came out. Stuff like hardmode dropping no consumables ever. I'm giving it a week or so to iron out the major kinks before I pass judgement, but I expect it will lie firmly in the "Hey cool, more stuff to do." I don't didn't expect it to be an enormous increase in content like AB was, because the big draw (for me at least) was the appeal of modding bringing some really good shit into the fold. Being able to play antibirth content with afterbirth content at the same time would be pretty nifty, and I think given half the chance modders will make some really really sweet content at a much more rapid pace than Edmund could ever hope to keep up with.

Remember the majority of people who play the game will not have any use for the modding tools. It should be treated as a side bonus then as a major feature.

I personally will not be making mods will them. I will personally benefit from them greatly through the mods others will create. It's the same as something like Skyrim. The game is great on it's own. Then you add mods and it's a whole new world.

By the by you can get the modding tools without Afterbirth+

The idea is that some mods will get added to the official game monthly.

yes you are, they never, ever said "it's supposed to suck", they've said it's supposed to be small, which was always the case (the phrase "mini-DLC" was used consistently throughout the entire devcycle).

Anyway, patches are coming. [2]

yes you are

Really? So this "mini-expansion" was meant to not add anything? :P

There wasn't meant to be any QA?

The fact that it broke the meta is a testament to how it is the developer's game and not yours?

You seem to not know how far down the rabbit hole I went :P

Edit: So this is more clear. Those examples I gave? Are real! Yes, there were people who argued that the game shouldn't have had any QA because it is faster this way. Yes there were people who argued that this expansion wasn't meant to add ANYTHING it is just for the mod tools... and yes there were people who argued that any problem with the game is entirely intentional as some sort of artistic statement.

It's a single-player game that was never balanced to begin with. Who cares about the "meta"?

Anyone who plays a game? I was referring to how the gameplay is now overall structured.

Neo, when you say things like this, you need to post links to the sources you are quoting. Otherwise, people may simply not believe you.

I could, but lets face it. If I DID link these... No one would believe them after either.

Besides what would it prove? Irrational people exist? It doesn't say anything about the game and is really just an aside I gave.

He's just paraphrasing the Steam reviews. You can see them yourselves since the salt content around new releases is high, especially for BoI fans, and all the negative reviews are dogpiling on the store page right now since they're the most recent ones.

It would prove that you are not misrepresenting an argument. By providing a source, you are proving that you are not pulling these claims out of your ass. If the people who wrote what you are quoting are right, wrong, sane, or insane is its own thing.

Also, using only the worst examples for an argument is still misrepresenting the argument, even if it's a legit example.
