There's an item that unlocks after dying 100 times. New goal? Perhaps.

Epic Fetus + Flying is a bit too good of a combination (when aiming with the mouse). I full-cleared The Chest with it. Then used a Forget Me Now and did it again. Sadly, the game didn't break.

Can you spot all 9 familiars in this picture?

Just got this game today on the steam sale, beat Mom on the second try. Prompted another friend to replay it, he couldn't even get past the second floor.

Something I really like about the game is the randomness, not being able to 100% each playthrough (there are always things you have to leave behind), and the minimal explanation for items and bosses. It reminds me of the best parts of the original metroid, mystery that makes the game more exciting to play because it doesn't make everything obvious, doesn't make it easy for you to get everything. You have to make tradeoffs between your limited resources. All of these things would be annoying, almost impossible to get away with in most modern games, but in this, because each individual game is so short, the issues don't stand out as much. You're not trying to 100% each time you play, because you'll just start again next time. It really is the perfect coffee break game.

The only problem with BoI as a coffee break game is that when you're doing well, a 10 to 20 minute game stretches into 45 minutes to an hour.

Found Nun's Habit + Unicorn Horn while I was playing over vacation. That thing is brroooooookkkkeeee with the right health recovery methods. Being able to use the unicorn horn 4 times in a Mom fight made it so I (almost) couldn't lose.

Been playing this for a bit again and remembered how annoying the last two bosses are. It's gotten to the point where I'm considering skipping "tear-up" items because they make them annoying harder. I did manage to get the Celtic Cross and the Photo on ??? though which was pretty damn awesome. Almost every hit was a shield.

Goddamn RNG. Game was nice enough to either only give me range or usable powerups as Maggie, so I was doing pathetically small amounts of damage to Mom. When she finally died, I took damage for no discernible reason and the game robbed me of the benefits. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I got pushed between the spaces between holes in the floor and trapped.  It'd be easier to like this game if it didn't fuck me like that.

Yeah it's a bug that's been in the game since release. It was most common with the ladder and those stone blood spitters. Lucky wings are a lot more common in this expansion than in the vanilla game. I think version 1.0 only had active items that gave you wings which made the ladder a lot more useful than it is today.

I will seriously buy Wrath of the Lamb for someone who only has the normal one. I'm now 131 hours into the game and I would gladly pay more for a great game like this.

Someone who matches the criteria, just say so in the thread and add me on Steam.

EDIT: In other news, I found Left Hand and beat The Chest with Eve, so I have 94/97 secrets unlocked. Platinum God is almost in sight.

Damnit, could've saved £0.99 :P.  The bundle is really weird, incidentally, in that it costs more than its component parts at the moment.

I recently had a round of absolute hell with explosive shots.  Maybe I'm missing something, but I much prefer even the default, unupgraded weapon.  At least you can take out flies and not kill yourself with that.  Somehow I still managed to make it about as far as any other character I've had though, probably due to the eyeball killing everything for me.

I got the explosive shots half as a death wish and half a desperation tactic as Samson just now. I managed to blast away almost all of my 12 Spirit hearts from Guppy's Paw in just a few floors, but then I started to get hang of it. It was a bit too late as I entered Womb with 4½ hearts, then Cathedral at three hearts and finally The Chest at two hearts and a one-up.

I failed against a Horseman combo and lost the one-up, then screwed against something else and stared at the final boss room with half a heart and a full Book of Shadows, thinking I rather die at the hands of the end boss than some random Chest enemy.

You probably see where this is going. With the "Blast damage" upgrade I got a few rooms earlier I managed to get him to 1/3 health in the duration of the shield, then dodged and bombed him to death. He dropped a heart, which I picked up and cleared away the small fries.

Wheeew, never expected to win that one.

EDIT: Aaaaand Maggie done with Book of Revelations and Habit. 96/97. Now to hunt for Conquest and Guppy's Hairball.

131 hours into the game
94/97 secrets unlocked
96/97.

I'm so jealous. 190 hours, 88/97 secrets, 414 deaths, 91 mom kills, 196 items. I guess I'm just bad at this game.

Well, my playtime doesn't show the huge amount of hours I've spent reading up on the game, discussing strategies with friends and watching other people play the game on Youtube, twitch.tv and in real life. I also have a real soft spot for these kind of brutally hard games and the concentration required to succeed in them. I've beat Super Meat Boy 106% and got all the collectables in VVVVVV.

So, you're most likely not bad at the game, especially if you have a high end computer. The increased game speed might make dodging significantly harder in some situations. My computer is quite good, but when many things explode or there's many dozens of tears on the screen, it does slow down noticeably.

My other stats are pretty similar too, I just passed 100 Mom kills and I have many hundreds of deaths, so I might just go through the rooms slightly faster.

So, don't be jealous or lose hope, the played hours thing doesn't really tell that much about skill.

I've seen all of Psychedelic Eyeball's LP of Super Meat Boy (and he's doing custom chapters now on SMW) and I've played a few runs of Binding of Issac.  If you lose during the final boss fight you still seem to get an ending cutscene?  Because I was miraculously lucky with item grabs one time but my health and skill was just not enough...I think.  They were down to like 1/5 HP but I'm pretty sure I did die.
