Also, using only the worst examples for an argument is still misrepresenting the argument, even if it's a legit example.

Well not "The" argument at least. Remember also that this isn't "People who hate the game versus people who like it" either... This is "People who dislike the game versus people who are directly addressing people who dislike the game".

Positive reviews and comments that aren't trying to rebuke the negative ones basically are people who are just content with what they got.

What is important Putnam is how you feel about the game, and if you think that it is great then by all means it is great.

i don't, it's too damn hard right now, that's being fixed which i'm fine with, i managed to actually beat a run today but the path to the final floor didn't spawn (ARGH) and also i only did it by virtue of becoming guppy and getting mom's knife on floor 4

They just need to
a) Change the spawn rates and locations of some of the encounters (Portals or what they can spawn and where... Spiked chests... and stuff)
b) Alter the reward rates for secrets and item rooms

I honestly think the reason they nerfed secrets and item rooms is because of how the game seems to fold in on itself... that the player can too easily break the game over their knee?

But I don't quite think this is the best way to go about it.

Hitting all the secret rooms in your playthrough in the previous version wasn't a guaranteed win; but your chances for quality items like Fate, Eternal Hearts and the occasional bonkers glitch secret room were a big help.

To me the biggest abusable room is still the Casino, especially when you get 1+1 For Life, Sack Head, or any of the stuff that alters how normal drop are generated. That and the Sacrifice Rooms basically became guaranteed Angel fights once you had the life to keep sacrificing, and the items you could get along with it could also break levels, if not the game.

I don't really know the content of the secret room changes, but in the previous version they were 50% useless. So if they've driven down the usefulness of them even further, I can see why people are pissed.

Yeah, this avalanche of complaints and rage is such a crazy knee jerk reaction, as if nothing that is a bit off in the game right now couldn't be fixed. Everyone also hated Hush and Ultra Greed a year ago and now Afterbirth has like a 95% approval, so go figure.

Though I'd argue that in the last year viciously hating on games and their developers has become a lot more trendy. So that might be having an effect on the reaction as well.

Well, McMillen also likes to needle his loudest critics. If you read through his blog posts on bindingofisaac.com or w/e it is, he basically says stuff like "you people are going to bitch and complain anyways" or "....people will probably hate it and moan constantly but whatever", etc...

The subtext is that there is a vocal part of the fanbase that has a love/hate relationship with the game. (Which you can see in fanbases for Bethesda games, Warframe players....) where they play the game but do nothing but call the developers incompetent, and rarely acknowledge what a game has done right.

And Binding of Isaac seems to have that in spades.

That said, I get the impression this IS sort of a padded out expansion. Makes me wonder how much of it was McMillen and how much is basically Nicalis developing from his play book.

Part of me wonders if it's the fact that the demo gamers roughly fall into is aging and everyone can't help but think they'd do a better job....if only they'd committed their life to programming games.

There are some major launch issues (eg the double Cage boss, that one regular sized Womb room with EIGHT Blastocysts) but McMillen has acknowledged them on Twitter and says it will be fixed tomorrow.

I haven't really had any problems with the portals that everyone else seems to hate though. Maybe there should be slightly fewer of them.

Huh.

So is this a free expansion or paid? Because I don't see any changes in the game, and I don't see it for purchase in the DLC for BoI:Rebirth.

Is this not yet available in all countries/regions?

Edit: I was able to find it by searching the store for Afterbirth+, but as I say it wasn't listed in the Rebirth DLC page. It is also included in the Rebirth Complete bundle, which is listed on the Rebirth store page, but again - not by itself.

Probably on account of the fact that Afterbirth is required for it.

Yeah this is DLC for DLC
It's a free update for the DLC, you don't have to buy it.

edit: or maybe not, the store page is quite confusing me now

Yeahno, you definitely have to buy it. Steam must be feeding you some nasty lies if it looks like that's not the case.

I was just confused, since steam downloaded an update for the base game around the same time it came out, plus it doesn't show up on the DLC page for Rebirth.

There's a decent chance you downloaded all the stuff for the DLC. You simply can't unlock it until you pay for. That's the de jure way devs like to handle expansions now. Just download everything into your install whether you've paid for it or not.

Don't really mind when it's a couple hundred megs, but I get a little annoyed with developers when I download 8 to 10 gigs of shit for a DLC I never plan on buying.
