... and the game isn't kidding about Extreme Cliffs. "☼" means "☼".

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There's a volcano on top.

Give me your dwarfiest ideas of what to do with this.

My personal plans are to turn invasions off, or keep population low, and start a massive mining operation to create iron pumps. I will work with magma. It needs to be done sooner or later.

Channel it down till you have your fortress including 10z high hallways and 30z high walls etc. or just try and make it flat, show the mountain we're dwarves we don't give a shit about you and your little 'hill'.

I got fed up with my fortress, so I decided to kill everyone (abandon is for elves) with a cave-in.

OK, cave-ins were always pretty deadly, but with the new falling object damage they are downright brutal.  As far as I can make out from the logs, many people were killed by the flying bodies of other victims.  One baby's corpse ricocheted off three other people, two walls and the floor.

This is actually extremely common. Whatever anti-aliasing techniques the game uses to blend different environments into each other often fails spectacularly when Volcanoes are involved, leading to ridiculously sharp differences between the parts of the map that are associated with the volcano and those that are not.

Looks fun to get your miners to excavate the whole mountain, layer by layer, with the fun of the cave-ins, until its as flat as the surrounding area.

Edit: You ninja.

First: World seed please.
Second: Mount Dwarfmore.

I copied the game folder and am starting on your idea(s). I built an anti-apocalypse storage facility (AKA temporary storage) over in the flattest corner. I'm working on a magma-proof covering (just in case, of course).

Any suggestions on what to do with the volcano? It's over 100 above-base-ground levels of magma/lava. I can't exactly mine through it. Should I dig around it, leaving a giant magma tube into the sky?

PRE-EDIT:
First: World seed please.
Second: Mount Dwarfmore.
I like both of those ideas. Where's the seed? Haven't used one before.

so embark then press esc then  go to export local image and it'll create a text file in your Df folder which contains your seed.

Open a copy of the world, and open legends mode.  It should have something about world data in there and the available seed.  Meh, screw that explanation.  Wiki: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Importing_and_Exporting_Games

I used the method on the linked page, for after embark. Let's see if it works.

Success.  I found your spot, the only volcano on the map.  That's some MAD elevation!  Such a glorious cliff face, just begging for an enormous statue.  The volcano that rises outside the mountain is a nice touch as well.  It's just a pillar of obsidian jutting out from the mountain...

Yeah, I figured I didn't need to give directions to the only volcano in the middle of a pocket world. You have to embark including the flat areas to the west of it, or else stretch the embark site or use a utility. I would've embarked on more mountains, but now that I've seen it, that probably wouldn't be a good idea...

And while I'm thinking about it, did you guys know that Overseer works in Adventure Mode?

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

i made a world similar. made the world so it doesnt erode extreme cliffs, thats it. quickly found an area with ☼ EVERYWHERE. i switched it to normal view, grasslands with the extreme fuck-you mountains there. embarked like hell. now i have nice and flat area, then all of a sudden a mountain extending like armoks middle finger, with magma on the inside. theres also a erm.. not sure what its called, the spider web looking thing that makes the start of a brook on the map. doesnt do much tho as its at the very top and brook flows north.

so yes. I found a nice totally flat area, though it has less trees then a forest. It has flowing water, and at one end of it a mountain volcano going up 86z levels
