When I learned that there are, in fact, no special button presses in Pokemon to make your pokeballs catch them any more frequently. It's just one of those childhood sacred cows, which to this day people believe. I've even heard it talked about by people in my major, Game Development, as a fact. But alas, it is merely confirmation bias and all those other wonderful superstition creating things. Funny part is, the actual button press combos associated with the myth will vary from place to place, as the myth began in a largely pre-internet era.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

The Beano and the Dandy. Unutterably tarnished forever, the child within weeps.

The Beano and the Dandy.
I haven't read those in ages. Perhaps for the better.

On a slightly different tack, something that actually makes my inner child smile is the (relatively) recent wave of pop-techno remixes of classic 80's pop songs. I don't quite know why, but DJ Sammy's dance mixes of Bryan Adams and Don Henley (with vocal covers by Do) just...work.

Just pretend just about everything past ~1999 never happened. Read this year's annual, honestly what.

I've once had the feeling where I thought:  "Sir, you are trolling...  TROLLING."

I forgot what of my childhood/past was twisted into such a horrendous abomination that I found it funny and soul crushingly sad at the same time, probably blocked it out and never went back to it again.

My childhood (although I didn't grow up in the eighties) consisted of a lot of eighties films. But hey guys it's not as if they're going to make terrible remakes of things like Indiana-- oh wait.. well they probably won't remake awesome sci fi films such as roboco--http://www.businessinsider.com/robocop-remake-looks-towards-keanu-reeves-tom-cruise-and-johnny-depp-2011-4 Oh fuck you hollywood.

There's also a new Conan film. It doesn't look too bad yet.

At least they're not remaking Red Dawn. Fuck. And they're replacing the Soviets with North Koreans?? How the hell are they going to explain that...did the NK's just build a landbridge using bodies of starvation victims?

Well at least Ghostbusters is safe. FUUUCK. They've got the original cast back, but c'mon...if they were any older, they would be playing the ghosts.

Spoiler: Oh wait. (click to show/hide)

At least they'll stop milking Highlander's rotting corpse for more movies.

Now comes news that Summit Entertainment is recruiting Melissa Rosenberg  (Twilight, New Moon, etc.) to give her spin on the mystical tale of Scottish immortals whose “There can be only one” philosophy simply would not gel with the idea of a reboot.

SO. MUCH. RAEG. "There can be only one. And he sparkles...."

Total Recall. With Colin Farrell as Quaid. Okay, fuck you people. Seriously.

He-Man. With Dolph Lundgren. AGAIN. Please make it stop.

The halfassed Knight Rider TV series wasn't enough defilement, now they have to do a movie too.

I'm going to stop now before I gaze too deep into the abyss and find it gazing back at me.

Here's another fun fact - Born This Way by Lady Gaga is the same as Express Yourself by Madonna, but with different words.

Ah, well, in my case part of the annoyance comes from the fact that when I want to find stuff on the original work, like a community of people on the web, I can't.  It IS different.  I can enjoy it myself, but it's a heck of a lot harder to find other appreciators.

I feel this way about Tolkien.  It's made my appreciation of his work something I can only share with a couple people outside of my family.  Everyone else mainly fawns over the movies.  Most people who read the books did so after the movies, and don't appreciate them deeply.  For me, they were a cornerstone of my childhood.

I'm sure the work you're referring to has it even worse.

There are some other remixes out there too. This band, for instance.

Nah.  I have no feelings for anything I've done in the past really.  I think it's stupid to try to feel good about something you've done long before and oh how great and oh how good it was and oh how crappy everything is today.  Screw that, I'll be enjoying what we are getting now.  Although I still find 4kids OPs to be the best thing to ever scratch my retina.
