Apparently there was a big problem with fraudulent credit cards buying the digital version and then being used to spam.

Sounds more like a problem with their credit authorization system...

So in typical Blizzard fashion... instead of fixing their systems they add roadblocks to the user.

I cut them an iota of slack because they're a magnet for hackers, scammers, ect.... And even the best security crumbles under the combined weight of that many trouble makers. Being the #1 entertainment company in the world isn't easy.

That said, resorting to measures like this isn't acceptable either.

It's tragic how expensive and arduous security is. Difficult to obtain, often difficult to tell if it's working, and even worse as information continues to circulate faster and in larger quantities.

200 years ago, information was transported by wagon, and required only a couple of armed guards as escorts. If you wanted information or items, you had to physically go there and take it. If you wanted to steal someone's identity, you had to convince those closest to that person that you are, in fact, their friend/family member/colleague, often to their face.

Nowadays, someone on the other side of the world could send an electrical signal, going nearly the speed of light, and take information off thousands of computers at once, all in the span of a couple of seconds. You never see them, and it takes thousands of times the time investment to fix the problem as it does to cause it in the first place, because humans have not gotten any faster.

Hurricane Katrina updated
Also, I met the enrage timer against an elite, when I solo kited it while everyone else(in a game of 4) was elsewhere.  Bullshit.

Repair costs are astronomical too...

Enrage timers on bosses, while out of place for an action RPG, I can sorta understand. At least some (or most) of their attacks are avoidable, or can be mitigated with the use of a quick cooldown.

But for the overpowered rare/etc mobs, who have a random combination of rape, and then adding a timer on how fast you've got to kill them? Ridiculous.

Blizzard's since apologized about the 72 hour starter edition thing. Apparently the restriction on only playing the starter edition was a mistake. But there are still a ton of restrictions on those 3 days, such as not being able to use the chat feature, auction house, drop things for other players, yadda yadda yadda.

It's like you paid $60 for peanut butter, only to have the manufacturer stick their dick in it once it's open. They apologize, but they're still dipping their balls in the pb, and you're just glad it's not the dick anymore.

For the record, I am uncomfortable with any dick:balls:peanut butter ratio other than 0:0:1

Frankly, I think it was intentional but entirely necessary to combat several issues. Also, can we agree to investigate any person with a username that has 4 consonants in a row, like "ghfgujkl" since many(not all) gold farmers and bots use names like this?

If I were a conspiracist, I would say that they intentionally went overboard with the restrictions, just to say "Oops, our bad." and dial it back a notch to save a little face. On the other hand: didn't the beta have the same sort of restrictions before going live? Not necessarily no chat/drop, but they could have used the same flag used to restrict access during beta for these accounts requiring credit authorization. (However, I'm not 100% sure on what exactly was restricted during beta or restricted now, so maybe I'm talking out my ass.)

So... basically single player?  Not bad at all.

EDIT: So... once you hit Inferno/60... D3 becomes a grind for gold, in the most basic of sense.  A rat race against repair costs...  And yes, I now turn back to pick up +50 gold off the floor.  If I can see it, I must have it.
Also, running Act 4 Hell and Act 1 Inferno to farm gold gets old pretty fast... and I just only started doing that...  2 days ago. I think its designed to push players to the cash AH...

I've just started in the full version finally. I'm going to level a WD, a DH and a barb as I go, so gear swaps off primary stats shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't mind doing a monk as well, but she (and the wiz) can just get hand-me-downs for now. They'll be a cash chucking problem later on.

So far it feels like Barb=easy melee, WD=easy everything, DH=my character I actually have to get good at. Early levels, early content, so my opinion doesn't count for much. Although my WD has had some freaky crafting luck. I still think that they're the most versatile character, solo or group play. Will be even more-so once pets scale off vit (or do they do that in 1.03?). I still want my monk levelled eventually, just because I love quick move melee. I still don't get wizards though.

If anyone wants a guest-pass, give me a yell. It's kind of pointless, but a good waste of time. I'll throw you a 22DPS hand x-bow and a decent quiver just for trying a DH out. They're so different in guest-pass compared to full-game

Stop dying so much.  Repair bills are pretty cheap when you do HC and never die.
