As far as I know, the skills are handled via hotkeys and only movement is done with the mouse. I'm one of the unwashed masses who wasn't deemed worthy of beta, so I'm going by hearsay. Can't imagine how you'd handle 5 active skills with the mouse alone, though.

Getting into the beta is pot luck, it's influenced by nothing.

How clicky is it?  Am I going to have to buy a cheap mouse for this game to prevent my good one from exploding under the cumulative weight of a million clicks?
Actually it's a lot less clicky than Diablo 2:

1. There's not a massive flood of scrolls, potions and gold piles that need to be picked up. All of that is done away with in smart ways.
2. No more inventory Tetris. There's only two sizes of items (at least that I've seen) and your inventory is big. To say nothing of the MASSIVE Stash.
3. 4 out of your 6 active abilities are used with hotbar keys, without clicking. Though your two main skills still use mouseclicks.

Those are biggest ones, but there's still a fair amount of clicks from moving, especially if you're like me and some MOBA has taught you to click way more than necessary.

Actions per minute for going to point A to point B before my first MOBA:  1
After: 47
How much this has improved my gameplay: 1%

I cant wait to be 1% better at Diablo!

game is good. Buy it.

I was skeptical but have been swayed. The evolution from D2 to D3 is more subtle than I expected and everything really is elegantly designed(can't believe I said that about a game). The controls are refined, animations are smooth and good(considering the perspective) and the action is satisfying. Blizzard has won me back over and I kind of hate myself for it. There are political reasons for not buying the game, but the game itself is worth buying.

I can't give specifics on the beta, but obviously I like what I see.

Can I ask what class(es) you played and how you feel they measure up? I like the idea of the new skill system, just don't know anyone who's played it.

I have played Demon Hunter, Witch Doctor and Monk. Monk is an acquired taste but the others are great fun. I should also say there is random content. In the same spot with 3 different characters I have experienced different play. I encountered a somewhat rare NPC who interacted with me, which was really cool. It's good to know that the content won't be stale right away.

I've played, I think, over 20 hours of the beta, but what do you mean by measuring up?

The skill is system is great anyway. Instead of picking skill points that are locked down, every level you unlock either a skill, a rune or both in a predetermined order. At any time you can change your 6 active skills to any combination you want, though you can only have one rune active per skill. There's a 15-second delay after changing a skill until you can use it, to prevent people from just speccing to every opponent and forcing you to have a concrete strategy.

It's a great system as it really frees the player to try any build they want without any penalty. There's no need to reroll the character or get some limited skill reset thing. You'll have everything available and you just need to figure out the best thing for you.

I'll just summarize my general feel of the classes:

Barbarian is my absolute favorite, hits like a truck and really feels like it. Nice in-your-face style, even though the skills are mostly modified from Diablo 2. Rage instead of mana, so you get to use all the skills a lot.

Witch Doctor is a pretty nice combination of the Diablo 2's Act 3 shamans and the Necromancer. So fireblasts and summons. Feels a bit weak until you get a skill called Soul Harvest, which steals souls from the enemies next to you and gives stacks that boost intelligence. On max stacks you get almost a 100%-damage boost from it for like 20 seconds.

Wizard is a different kind of Sorceress that deals damage in bursts. The spells feel really impactful and flinging them all in a quick succession is great fun. he's also great at breaking stuff.

Monk jumps in the middle of the enemies and AoEs them all to death or just moves them around, then blinks to them to finish 'em off. Seems to be everywhere at once, but I'm not too crazy about him. Seems a bit too much like the Barbarian.

Demon Hunters just made me happy by moving in dungeons really fast, but otherwise I didn't really get into them. Just a bunch of cone-like ranged attacks and the abilities seem to either slow the enemies or move you away from them.

The game feels great in every way though and UK Amazon has it at 29.95£, so I'm sure it will absolutely be worth that.

You answered my question. I followed development off and on for a couple years, so I know the basic design. I wanted an opinion from someone who's actually played the game, not a legion who pre-hate it because a) it's Blizzard or b) it's not Diablo 2.

Monk sounds a lot like Martial Arts Assassins used to be, so it can't be all bad.

You have the chance to see if you like it this weekend, if you have a battle.net account that is.

The game is having an open beta weekend! Friday from 12:00 PDT, if I'm not mistaken that means from 5PM in England, 6PM in Europe.

There's nothing wrong with thread necromancy if it's relevant.

Can anyone confirm co-op is available in the beta? I'm at work and I can't check on it myself.

I can't because the servers are too busy to allow me to log in. If it is the same as the closed beta I have been playing then co-op isn't really an issue as you can only play the first chapter and it takes 45 mins first playthrough looking for every little secret and about 25 mins each with the other 3 classes after.

25 minutes is unfair. Just finished my first playthrough and it took me about an hour and a half, exploring the side levels I found but not going out of my way.
