Reclaimed Fortress Mining Ignored
« on: June 01, 2007, 01:07:00 am »

I reclaimed a past fortress, and the door turned out to be locked, so I wanted to dig out a new path. I designated the area where I wanted them to mine, but none of the miners ever did anything. It just said, 'No Job'. I tried again, with 28 miners and 10 picks.

They are already deactivated from their military position.

Why?

Are the miners holding the picks?  What do you mean by the door is locked?  You can't unlock it?  Did you reclaim it with the reclaim designation?

A had a closed door connected to a lever inside the fortress, so I tried to dig a tunnel beside it. The miners don't seem to be doing anything at all.

EDIT: Apologies, problem solved. I didn't know I had to add Miner to their labor options. First time I reclaimed a dungeon.

EDIT: Dungeon? I mean Fortress.

Same thing happened to me lately, and it took me quite some time to find the solution  :)

I wonder, am I right that mining is the only labor turned off when reclaiming? Cause everyone else was busy right away, and that was why I didn't find the solution for so long...

I have noticed that mining and woodcutting are mutully exclusive, presumably because each one requires a tool.  It may well be the case that mining and soldiering are likewise mutually exclusive -- i.e. a unit can't wield a weapon and a tool at the same time.

hm, yep, maybe. Though I didn't have to turn on woodcutting for the carpenters... which might be because they were axedwarves anyway...

I've seen legendary miners and woodcutters carry around an axe and pick forever.

Rilly?  Hm.  I've not seen anything like that.  Right and left hands, or both in the right hand?  (I think left hand is reserved for artifacts.)

When I had a dual-legendary miner/woodcutter, she would always change tools when changing jobs.  She'd drop the pick right where she was, go find an axe, then go to the jobsite.  Then knock off for a drink or two.

Thinking about it, maybe she was carrying an artifact.
