I'm kinda expecting Obama to hulk out here.

You know, I remember thinking about how absurd it was that there was actual radiation- a few bananas worth, yes, but radiation- leaking from Fukishima. I was at least relieved by the fact that it would be crazy for it to get any worse.

From what NPR was saying, July 22 would be approximately the deadline simply due to the time it takes for the legislative process to work through. So... we're pretty much boned at this point barring a deal tomorrow or some sort of semi-legal maneuvering.

...But it IS July 22.

Oh well.

My only regret is that I didn't get a job before the economy collapsed  :'(

Moody's ect...already said they were planning on a move in advance of August 2nd. After this nonsense, I'm sure they've had it. Everyone's investments are about to take a second round of 'you ain't worth shit.'

As I said, approximate; thus a day or so wiggle room could probably be made, but not much more.

Some of the stuff said in this thread really makes me hate the fact that I'm a southerner. (A fairly strange southerner, being Atheist and Liberal SOCIALIST...)

Here's something I thought of (Probably stupid, but I like to throw any ideas out and see how good/bad they are.) FORCE companies to hire Americans. Not talking about how it would never happen, but what would happen if it was made illegal to outsource, forcing companies to hire Americans?

Not much, actually. Mechanization of the workforce would continue, if not go even faster, and the jobs would be just as gone just as fast. The old employer/employee paradigm is quickly fading as the economy moves from capital + labor = product towards capital = product. For now, it's mostly the traditional unskilled laborer jobs, but soon enough it will be most of them which do not require intellectual work. And given enough time, many of those too.

Welp. There goes all my chances at ever getting a job.

If we make it through this without a total governmental collapse, I expect there to be some serious reforms, because this shit cannot continue.

Not an expert, but I believe what happens is all our investments and most capital in banks depreciates significantly overnight. Businesses find they have to pay more to get the exact same thing they paid for yesterday, firms dry up because they're now operating in the red, other businesses find it much harder to buy anything on credit. Shortages, unemployment, inflation. That's all on consumers and the private sector. The government would face even deeper cuts to balance to budget or to pay our debts, No government service or agency would go unaffected. It'd have probably an impossible time trying to secure new credit as well. When they're talking about downgrading our credit rating.....they're talking as though putting us on level with Zambia is a generous offering. Imagine how the US and world economy would react to the news that its financial center is about as reputable and stable as Zambia.

As financially reputable and stable as Zambia.  For the first couple weeks anyway, then who knows, sub-Saharan Africa here we come.

I am, frankly, terrified.

Posting for my own information.

All I can say is that I'm glad I filled up my gas tank this afternoon. When the dollar tanks, gas goes up.

I'm hitting the books hard tomorrow.  I need to learn German and Russian quickly so I can start learning to program in my spare time =/

And as much mathematics as possible, because if my university gets fucked then the health program is going to get slashed and I can't afford to go crazy a second time, so I have to kill my issues with nightmares, oh, now.

Yuuurgh.

My biggest concern at the moment is how hard Medicaid will get hit, which pays for my child's diabetic care.  Any problems beyond that... I really can't comprehend at the moment.

Edit:

This might lighten the mood
