X-Com:Apocalypse question
« on: July 15, 2011, 09:40:36 am »

How do I make the actors move faster in the turn based mode? I'm tired of waiting so long for them to move. I know in X-Com:UFO Defense you could make actors move faster.

I don't think you can.

At least I've never found it. On the bright side, you can move several units at the same time with turn based, you don't have to wait for one to finish moving to tell another to move as well.

It's been a while, I think I remember using realtime mode nearly all of the time for just that reason, plus big combats taking for freaking ever.  And run mode.

Realtime lets you reliably counter brainsuckers, since you can shoot them off your team's heads. As long as they don't fall off of their own accord, you're fine.

I can counter brainsuckers with turn-based just fine.

You just gotta realize reaction plays a bigger role in Apoc than in other x-coms. Don't use all your TUs unless you have backup.

In turn-based, lying prone on the ground is a perfect defence against brainsuckers. The thing jumps, misses, and ends up lying unconscious on the ground. Next turn, you can get up and shoot the now helpless thing.

I just stand by doors or have backup with nearly full TU. Works like wonders. I almost never get caught by brainsuckers in turn-based.

Grab a dude with a machine gun, put him on aggressive, set him on full auto... Tada... Reactive brainsucker killer.

In turn based, I had one of my soldiers shoot a brainsucker off the head of the soldier before him with a reaction shot - using explosive ammo.

You could just put androids at the front as well. They can't get brain sucked and the aliens will lose one or two brain suckers before they realize that and start avoiding them from what I remember.

I don't like androids much, unless one with good stats/skills show up in the list.

It takes a few days to build up enough Androids for that tactic to be effective...and by then, the Aliens have moved on to other weapons...

Technically, you can delay it by gaming the mechanics.

Changing you mean?

Because as far as I know, the invasion in apoc (unlike the previous x-com) has a set schedule for each difficulty you can pick.

Weapons/equipment deployed are determined by how many points you have, it's only the ships themselves that are on a schedule.
And yeah, unless you ignore most alien ships/infiltrations, it'll be difficult to get decent androids before brainsucker launchers are the exception, rather than the rule
