This Looks Like A Job For Superman....or embark anywhere
« on: July 13, 2011, 12:22:34 pm »

We have what appears to be a human civ who have decided to build a settlement bordering a volcano...

can embark anywhere be used in an already genned world?

These humans need to be thought the glory of Magma....and then Lava....is it considered lava or magma if it's going through someones living room>

Exactly. Ethics in DF are very realistic - trivial and pointlessly selectively ex/inclusive.

In short, yes.

If there are any humans in the area, capture them and put them on display inside your fort.

Magma is underground. Lava is above ground.
If it's going through a human's living room, it's lava. If it's going through a dwarf's living room, it's magma.

You should make an embark stretching over the volcano and stream, including part of the town. Obsidianize them. Rinse, pump lava into a massive resevoir, move south, and repeat all over the town.

What if the human's house is already buried under twenty levels of obsidian?

Don't kill the Humans! They aren't elves, you know; They deforest just as fast as dwarves and use metals as they can get them. They're almost Dwarves, but aboveground and without Magma because of it. They're like children and should be protected and nurtured And used as meatshields And allowed to join the military.

Who said anything about killing them? I'm just going to provide them with Lava, what they do with this wondrous gift is up to them.
If they use it to build forges and develop obsidian casting to better their civilisation ...so be it.
If they set themselves on fire and melt it's their own business.

They are tall, short-bearded bastards, they deserve to be brought to their knees so we can punch them in the face.

Some grow very long beards.

Also they kill eachother in warfare. That's pretty dwarfy.

I always like the humans in my games; they bring nice stuff for a burgeoning fort, and their guards aren't pushovers. They may be sub-dwarf, but they certainly aren't helpless, and in a world like DF that's a lot. Treat them with some modicum of respect, guys. Don't douse them in magma; just take over their town and "confiscate" all their items for trade, make a nice fountain maybe. Leave them be.

They could atleast respect the dwarves and bring stuff that fits the vertically challenged. All that goddamn useless armor, bah!

They know their armor could never live up to the standards of the dwarven smiths, so instead they bring you the equipment of their fallen dead so that you might melt it down and make something worthwhile.

Bah, they bring the large armor so that you can sell it to adventurers passing through. At least its metal, not wood. A Gum Greave sounds so wrong

Humans can be pretty dwarvishly sometimes. They ride war cheetahs into battle. WAR CHEETAHS.
