Smelting requires ore to be crushed and baked in a furnace with any slag and impurities poured or burned off. The forge also requires a furnace as well as the tools for casting and shaping metal. This "forge" combines all the tools for both around a common set of furnaces.

Can you build more quarries and mines at a site? Yes, but I have not considered what the benefit would be yet as there isn't a hard limit on the number of workers per farm/mine.

Also note that food is critically low, but manageable if enough people are sent to fish or hunt.

We should send out a full harvesting group to the closer fishing grounds. Would putting up a smoking-house for rapid preservation on-site be feasible?

Okay then, nevermind the Forge Construction order. I assume the mining site is the top-west site?

Yes. The mining site is at the top west.

With 3 canoe, and your 1 floating ship, you could get ~35 people fishing at the good location a practically unlimited number along the shore.

Note, my last post said farm/mine, it should have been quarry
/mine.

Use the bronze to make 10 more picks. There is enough shelter at the mining site, so do not build any more houses there yet. Once those ten picks are made, train 10 colonists to be miners. Captain Raset will continue prospecting, taking some scouts and 5 miners with him to the west/southwest.

All citizens not otherwise engaged is maintaining the settlement are going fishing. We need food. Setos will personally help, pulling in nets and helping to assemble a smokehouse and drying racks on-site.

5 miners craft 10 picks.

10 colonists are trained as miners.

Under the command of setos the sailors, 8 fishermen and 27 other colonists contribute to the construction of nets at the beginning of the month and spend the rest of the month fishing out at sea, producing 87 food.

4 masons work the fish traps harvesting 9 food.

Realizing that hunting would be more effective than trying to grab fish off the beach with their bare hands, the rest of the colony sets itself to hunting with what weapons are available.

6 masons 3 archers, 2 acolytes and 14 guards,  hunt with 10 bows and 10 spears in the forests to the west producing 34 food.

With the food crisis taken care of for now, the other colonists go about their typical work.

9 woodcutters cut 32 wood.

10 carpenters continue work on the docks.

10 miners dig ore from the mine and produce 20 copper ore and 4 tin ore.

Of the 9 ill colonists, 4 recover, but 1 succumbs and dies. The injured guard recovers.

Raset takes the scouts and a group of 5 miners to the southwest and into the swamps, crossing another stream, until they come to the edge of the island. on a group of small hills they find a large circle of stones overlooking a narrow sea channel separating this island from another. This area is littered with the bones of dead animals and Sobek as well as shattered weapons and shields.  Mineralogically, this feature is mostly chalk and without any serious mineral worth.

As the month comes to a close, the chill in the air lifts and  the frost and snow begins to melt. Spring has come early this year.

Take 5 miners with me and prospect in the mountains near the quarry site.

Ask Captain Setos to examine the place we found that was littered with bones.

Funeral rites for the casualty, and I'll examine the boneyard. I'll bring a couple of the guards as security.
Afterward, we need to celebrate the coming of spring to raise our flagging morale.
