Wrestling training

When you want to train wrestling for your military, how do you set it up? Just choose no weapon for them?

Correct, but wrestling is extremely weak. Your better off giving them weapons.

Why? I've read elsewhere that wrestling is extremely good?

What about using two shields? How good is that?

im not sure if dwarves are actually using the shields as a weapons so i cant say if its good. If you are going to use shields as weapons, you want them to be from same material as your hammers because they do blunt damage
and i think wrestling is pretty much useless atm, but it was quite effective in 40d

My starting 7 who had NO skill in wrestling managed to take down an ettin woundless in melee. It's not as weak as it seems.

Yeah, but that was luck, 8 migrants managed to kill an mountain titan with their bare hands (5 of them died horribly) and it only was possible because the titan was more interested in taking down a guy by his shoe than actually fighting, while the others beated it to death.

In this version, wrestling only serves as a distraction until your armed soldiers pass by and hack the enemies to pieces, while they can't move (due to being grabbed by a wrestler)

By the way, has anyone tested the effectivity of hevily armored good trained wrestlers and cotton candy'ed soldiers backing them up?
Well, I'm doing it anyway

Someone should do a writeup of the survival (alternatively: not survival) of a wrestling-centered combat fortress not bothering with the fancy stuff and focusing on the wrestling!

Got any tips on how you detail the memorials of a fort?

Need engravers, a craftdwarf workshop, and some slabs
Somewhere in the "q" menu for the craftdwarf workshop is "Engrave memorial slab"
