No.
There is the 'scum' IC, who is 100% scum, but isn't playing. They just have access to the scum chat to advice the new scum players.
Then there is the 'playing' ICs, who are taking part in the game, and may or may not be scum. If an IC rolls scum, the scum would have two ICs on their side, one playing, and one just advising. And if both IC's roll scum, then may god have mercy on the town.

On the plus side though, it is the goal of the IC to have the newbies walk out of the game as stronger players, not so much to win, so if a playing IC is scum, they are still committed to helping the town.

Town got lucky in BM24 in that regard. A few seconds later and that would've indeed been the case.

I don't think it would work. The idea of a bastard game is that your thrown in the deep end, as opposed to the friendly environment of a beginners game. Well, as friendly as it get's when Jim is involved... Anyway, the rules of a bastard change each time, so they wouldn't learn anything relevant to the next game.

Well, they would get a sense of a rougher game. There would be IC's to help them of course, and the possible base roles would be known to everyone (town, cop, doctor, sk, mafioso, m. roleblocker, etc.) but with a modification.
If an experienced mod could PM me, i would explain the details.  ;)

no, there would be a basic setup with a twist on top of it - special abilities, that is. which can change.

Roguelike, supernatural and paranormal all fill those conditions.

Are bastard game skills even teachable?

I don't think they are. Anything that could be taught to new players would be only relevant to that game, and that prepares them how?

They're also not applicable to a typical game, which is what I'd rather see all our teaching efforts going into.

I'd like to sign up. I played a game rather similar to this IRL, but that was quite a while ago.
