You aproach the man selling the heavy fighter. "Any chance of giving a discount to somebody willing to pay hard credits right now?"
He pauses for a second and thinks before opening his mouth. "How much of a discount?"
You smile. "How about 8000 credits?" You ask pulling out the money with a shark-like smile.
His eyes light up at the sight of the paper money, but he stifles his urge to sell on the spot. "That is a bit lower than what I'd be willing to part with it for."
You sigh. "Well that is about as much as I would be willing to spend on a craft... without taking it for a test flight first."
"Well we can fix that. Come with me to the Cockpit." The pair of you hop in and he takes off. He explains that this model of craft is called the 'Tiger shark' and was retired by the State of Mastro System Orbit Guard about five years ago not because the technology was obsolete but because the philosophy was.
"Tigers were still quite effective when they were retired, but high command feared their low maneuverability would make them sitting ducks for the more agile White Kobold fighter craft."
"Bullshit." You cut in, deciding to impress the owner with the extent of your knowledge. "Don't Tiger sharks come equipped with low level stealth generators so they can get the jump on smaller craft?"
The owner laughs and performs a loop-de-loop. "Bullshit indeed. If we kept these things in service we would have driven back the white kobolds, invaded their system, and extinguished their entire race by now. That said
this particular model had it's stealth generator shot off a couple years back, that's why I'm letting it go so cheap. The damn stealth unit is worth more than the rest of this craft combined!"
You continue flying and building rapport with the owner, and by the time you wrap up the test flight you are able to get him to sell for 8500.
-8500 credits
+1 Tiger sharkThe brief thought of entering Titian Pit and killing everybody enters you mind, but you as a single human female have next to no chance of destroying a neighborhood with only one arm and a pistol. "Son's of Zeus must be rubbing off on me." You mutter before calling for some transport to the Pit.
You step off the transport shuttle and begin to wander the Pit. Deciding that you do not want to deal with any encounters with the Orbital Bastards you head down to the still poor but less crime ridden east end of the settlement and enter a pub and eatery called 'The Flying Spittle'. It is ridiculously humid inside the pub and you quickly figure out why; it is run by Visectoids, a race of tropical flying insect people who cannot stand dry climates.
You begin to ask around in search of pilots and mechanics and find two prospective candidates for each position. Although you have 4 craft, only two of them are armed, and as a business woman you dislike the idea of hiring more staff than you need. You decide to bring aboard only 1 crew member of each profession.
The potential pilots are as follows:
-The bartender recommends her youngest son
Spitz for the job. Although he has no combat experience you know Visectoids are stereotypicaly considered great pilots. You have a feeling that keeping Spitz comfortable would require you set the humidity aboard
The Tettix to unbearable levels.
-A man in the corner introduces himself as
Rios. Rios claims to be an experienced bounty hunter and space pirate. He looks pretty human, except for his face, where most of the features are disproportionately huge. Part of you wants to ask him exactly what he is, but you are pretty sure such questions are considered impolite in the Pit.
The potential mechanics are as follows:
-A drunken dwarf in the corner introduces himself as
Logem. Logem bluntly informs you that he is a good mechanic, but also a drunk, gambler, and womanizer. You are not quite sure if he is trying to get you to hire him or pick you up...
-A strange young lady sculpted from purple slime introduces herself as
Amethyst. Amethyst explains that she is booksmart and has read and studied quite alot about mechanics, but has little practice. She also claims to be a dabbling mage. All you know about dabbling mages is that they are more likely to catch fire than to actually do something useful with their magic.
You ponder the canidates and wonder who you will
recruit and what you will
do next.
