Dwarven Heroes - In which you praise your valiant dwarves.
« on: July 11, 2011, 03:15:03 am »

So, I saw various comments on dwarven heroes. Among the most famous would be Tholtig Cryptbrain, and Cacame Awemedinade (though he was no dwarf, he was honoured as one).

I felt like making a thread where the community can talk about their fortress heroes or ones shown in their engravings. I'll start off.
BOLD the name of the fortress and of the heroes. Have an image if possible, though not required.

Creaturebolt:
This ill fated fortress survived goblin sieges, a hydra and a dragon before tantrum spiraling.
It had THREE heroes:

"Stuart the Hardy" Boatleg the Unbridled Doom - After the entire military of Creaturebolt had fallen to a tantrum spiral and Lethari Jadeflame the dragon, the Mayor took charge and singlehandedly defeated Lethari, before dying himself. The finishing move was a kick to the skull after he had lost two arms- shortly after which Stuart died.

"Kyle the Intimidated" (can't remember his last name) - Inflicted the majority of the wounds to Lethari, among which were a fractured skull, a broken leg and about thirty other fractures. He was later killed by a RHESUS MACAQUE who got a title as a result.

Lorbamadas - War Grizzly who fought Lethari - losing a leg to Lethari was his undoing. He inflicted multiple wounds to the dragon as the first retreat order was sounded and died after escaping Lethari's hungry grasp, safely inside creaturebolt.

Boldropes:
My current fortress. I have reclaimed it once- lost the fortress due to the Boldropes Civil War. It's now going fine. It has a number of heroes.

"Kurok'Taa" Fencedramparts - Defeated two titled trolls while unarmed. Hasn't got a title yet, but he's close.

Zefon Anvilwind the Silvery Dale - A hammer lord with eleven notable kills- a titled troll, Osnusm the Spit of Mines the forgotten beast and nine others.

Iteb Taperedpaged the Soaked Bowls of Paint - our incredibly fast moving militia commander / axe lord. He has twenty three notable kills, among them two forgotten beasts and a swamp titan. He singlehandedly defended the fort from a minor goblin ambush, fighting seven goblins at once before becoming tired and retiring to his bed.

"Sparkzlite" Mengnelas - a militia captain who got himself just about torn to shreds by a giant rat. He managed to hold off a giant rat infestation alone until Iteb and Revax came to his aid. As of now he is limping around, doing mechanic duties with a crutch and three red wounds.

"Revax" Rumourtheatre the Copper Pinnacle of Summits - Eight notable kills, plus fought alone vs. Gulgun Hogknot the flying spitting forgotten beast and won with no more than a scratch.

Reg Dangerlancers - While not a fighter, Reg defended herself and her child against six crundles while unarmed. She is also responsible for the smithing of armour and weapons for Boldropes and makes only the best adamantine objects.

Minkot Adiloslan - a War Troglodyte (yes, modded) who protected a baby from a giant earthworm. She suffered a broken hand in the process but now fights exclusively WITH that hand... (?)

Shorast Idencatten - War cougar, pet of Revax who came to Revax's aid during a siege by distracting attention from Revax. Shorast fought three goblins alone and won, suffering no more than two cuts.

Ral Whippedshake - War Elephant- pet of Iteb who helped him during the fight against a swamp titan by goring the titan repeatedly so Iteb could shake off the Stunned status and fight back, allowing him to defeat the titan.

ITALIC BOLD means engraving heroes- ones that are worthy of an engraving. I've only got one.

Kogan Guiltpassionate - A dwarven hero of the Silvers of Clinching who fought an elf druid (Ola Pinedrove) alone during the Great War of the Virginal Artifact and the Boar of Stances. This war lasted from year 50 in this world to nearly 400- resulting in a dwarven victory.  :D
(the current year is 558 and there has been peace with the nearly obliterated elven nation since)
Kogan smashed a front tooth of the druid before killing him- the engraving is almost always 'Kogan is striking a menacing pose' 'Ola is striking a plaintive pose' referring to the smashing of Ola's upper left tooth during the duel of Kogan Guiltpassionate and Ola Pinedrove in 233.
Out of the four hundred or so engravings in Boldropes, around 75 are of Kogan and Ola.

That guy was such a dwarfy dwarf.

What about you, the good denizens of Bay 12? Have you any heroes of your own fortresses? Adventurers need not apply.

I got one

FortName
BakedCreature the Immortal Eater of Mushrooms

Hero-
JuiceBagHero
Kills
2 forgotten beasts
6 Blind cave ogres
8 Troglodites
a whole bunch of other little things

Notable Battle
When he fought 2 Forgotten beasts in a 1x5 one after the other
Wielding
No shield/armour
a legendary wooden training spear

The first fight (cant remember the beasts name)
Some type of large bird thing (Had Craving for blood)
He ended it by ripping the beasts trunk off with his bare hands
ended up with a total of 1 wound (Broken left arm) ~Wich wasent so bad beacuse he diddnt use a shield

The Second Fight (Waxiton)
a six armed beast made out of goo (Spit Acid)
He Ended the fight by stabbing its head with the wooden training sword and crushing the brain
Ended up with 3 more wounds (Loped off left arm) (broken left leg) (Bruised brain)

Shortly after my brewer had a strange feeling and made a solid gold statue of juicebaghero decorated with Forgotten beast bones(Waxiton) and an engraving of him ripping the head off a forgotten beast. I then assigned him 20 war dogs to solve my dogsplotion..

Snff.. I miss that fort.. had some good fighters in it including a master crossbow dwarf.. she lost her arm to a rampaging house cat but managed to defeat 10 goblins from an archer tower..  she wasent recognized quite like juicebag though..

This one was a while ago, so I may be wrong about the name...

Lokum Abelostar. (Translation Unknown)

Skills: Adequate Swordsdwarf, adequate armor user, adequate shield user, novice marksdwarf (was a hunter.)

Equipment: Iron Sword, Iron Armor, Donkey bone artifact Shield (The Ripe Oblivion).

Kills: I didn't get to check.
Story: He was my militia commander in one of my first forts. During my first siege of about 18 axegoblins, I sent out my militia of 10 dwarves in iron armor and various weapons. They were slaughtered in a matter of seconds, only managing to kill two goblins. Except for one; Lokum was in the lowest level at the time, and couldn't make it to the surface. When he arrived, he saw 16 axegoblins and all of his friends dead. He then went into a martial trance and killed several of them and severely wounded nearly all in an epic, remarkably long battle. The goblins broke and retreated, and Lokum died of his wounds on the battlefield, shortly after the last goblin disappeared off the edge of the map.

Probably not as impressive as most, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Whippedsomething

"Pantheon" Droplet of Tears "Artisan of War" was a hero he himself has slain a titan made out of Crystal Glass, 4 FB's and holded off a few sieges on his own only to die at the hands of a flying dustflinging FB composed of Nickel Silver.

No Pantheon you are the FB. Then Pantheon was a ghost.

I got fed up with my fortress, so I decided to kill everyone (abandon is for elves) with a cave-in.

OK, cave-ins were always pretty deadly, but with the new falling object damage they are downright brutal.  As far as I can make out from the logs, many people were killed by the flying bodies of other victims.  One baby's corpse ricocheted off three other people, two walls and the floor.

I'm just going to mention Cacame, Urist, Morul, and that new Prideunited dwarf before anyone else.

Morul SoarBridge
A dwarf of many talents, by which I mean he had only the dabbling rank in masonry. I drafted him to fight a goblin ambush, as a delaying measure. Send him out in no-status copper gear. He slaughters 7 goblins in iron gear, and sustains the loss of two fingers, both on his sword hand. He has since risen to be the greatest soldier in my fort. He has never sparred with his squad or entered a danger room. Every point of experience Morul gets, he gets in live combat. He now has lost all his teeth, both ears, and one eye, but soldiers on with 56 goblin kills. I think he qualifies as a champion, given that I took away his armor after that first ambush, and have sent him out with just his civilian clothes and a bronze spear.

Goodness, I would call Morul the most dwarfiest dwarf I've ever heard of. Fighting alone with a bronze spear!

My heroes are hardly heroes, they're well armed, well armoured (Well, with the exception of the civilian heroes)...

"Sparkzlite" fainted trying to take an item to a depot. I don't want to euthanise this tough little dwarf but he's useless. I think I'll make him a noble.

Tuss something, named and titled badass from my first DF 2010 fort.

Named after a guy, Tuss was among the starting 7 in a community fort. The seven dug into the caverns and settled in there, carving rooms straight into the walls of the underground. When troglodytes attacked(and we found that wooden axes really suck as weapons), Tuss was the man with the copper axe. When the first soldiers were designated as a real squad, Tuss led them, still hanging onto the copper axe.

Through combat with goblins, Tuss quickly rose in skill and fame. Tragedy hit however when one of the named S7 died due to a magma man attack from the lava river below, leading to several other S7 tantruming and branding themselves as criminals. Tuss killed them without a second thought. Even when his wife(also a S7) went berserk and brutally killed their baby daughter, Tuss killed her and paid no mind.

Some said he was broken that day, or that he was broken to begin with. Regardless, for many years to come Tuss led the fort soldiers, taking on several forgotten monstrosities and even holding the enemy at bay when they snuck in through the well(how the hell did they get the- oh right flying mounts), standing his ground on a 1x1 bridge while all the other soldiers were knocked down and forced to take the long way around to get back there(which would have let the enemy get in the fort, had not that one soldier been there).

But like all good stories even his comes to an end, when a horrible disease spread by a forgotten beast caused his and most of the soldiers bodies to rot. The fort fell soon after, the surviving skilled soldiers too few to hold off a goblin siege that arrived soon after Tuss' death and the recruits too unskilled to hold rank and the enemy at bay.

If Tuss had survived that disease, maybe the fort would have survived that battle. Regardless, he's the guy I remember from DF2010 despite having built many forts afterwards.

Wonderful. Tuss should rank up there, with the champions. I mean, we already glorify Asad the caveswalllowman and he isn't even a dwarf and he's only got a few kills, but Tuss's story is pretty cool.

One of my legendary stonecrafters found himself face to face with a Troglodyte with a cut leg. After drafting him, the dorf grabbed him by the nose, threw him, and then did this. Ouch.

'Masonorr' of Deepforge

Lost his left arm to a goblin whilst saving the fort's doctor/broker/leader. Valiantly defended the fort against many sieges after that, holding both hammer and shield in his right hand.
He later was killed, again defending the doctor/broker/leader against a goblin. During the scuffle the goblin lasher punctured his heart. 'Masonorr' caved its head in and promptly bled out.

I gave him a gold sarcophagi, surrounded by magma, in a room coated in gold. Deepforge had a lot of gold.

It happened a while ago, and I have forgotten the name of the fortress and the "Hero".

In any case,
This yeti had been terrorizing my fortress, which was in a tundra biome, and kept running up and mauling the odd dorf and then running away. It ran up to this one soapmaker who had recently arrived at the fortress, and I just assumed the soapmaker was going to be dead.

When I checked again, the soapmaker was unharmed, and the yeti was lying on the ground, covered in its own blood, with its head on the tile next to it.
The soapmaker tore the yeti's head off

He didn't get any reward, though, and there was a magma accident soon after in the common room.
