If you do that then I'm gonna support global warming to the point that we have seas of boiling tea.

And to stay on topic, shirt and pants. :V

I wear a t-shirt and pajama bottoms, light ones though. While it doesn't get cold persay around here it stays cool enough most of the time. Plus its convenient that I don't have to put something on when I get up in the morning.

On the subject of weapons next to the bed I've got at least one sharp dagger in the bed's headboard thats next to my pillow, some knives that are to small to really use, and a decorative daisho (read fake but metal katana and wakizashi) on the top shelf of the headboard.

I wear sweat pants every morning because I don't like just walking around in my underwear for some reason.

I haven't worn "real" pajamas in years.

Next we shall ask why so many American households have built in laughter tracks.
QUIT PERSECUTING ME!

Don't push us man! I swear we'll blow up your tea again!
But... but we didn't blow up their tea! We poured it into the bay.
Sadly, we didn't have American Brand American C4 back in the Revolutionary War. Luckily, we have made great strides since then. Once we develop American Brand American Time Travel, I plan to fix the injustice committed against the Boston Tea Party by giving them proper American Weapons.

Retroactive changes to the timeline may or may not be pending.

My camping/wilderness thermal outfit have fallen into the role of Pajamas during the winter months. They are comfy and warm without feeling thick or heavy (I hate sweatpants and sweathshirts with a passion, they always feel incredibly constricting to me.) And you can put more clothes over them if it gets colder than expected.

Of course, this only developed from spending the winter sleeping outside in below-freezing weather, where even with a couple blankets you really want to wear something for when you need to go to the bathroom or somesuch. And so I still sleep in bed (in the cold) with thermals and a sleeping bag because I don't believe in wasting money on things like heating when its not needed.

When NOT in winter, it's whatever I was wearing before bed stripped down to the essentials - t-shirt and boxes is the norm, but nude is not uncommon.

And then ship the blown up packages to Boston Harbor and sink it.

Hey, I like tea!

Mildly more OT: I also follow the trend of keeping weapons by the bed, in my case one of those minature Louisville Sluggers that you can swing one-handed (mainly because I have ten bajillion of them from all the trips to the factory/museum when I was a kid).

And honestly, why is it easier to sleep fully dressed in a beanbag chair than in boxers in a comfy bed?

On the subject of bedside defence I have...

1 Dull hunting knife (I use it as a backscratcher but it still managed to stay pointy so far).

1 Medium sized pocket knife (I keep this one for self defence when I go out so its always razor sharp).

1 Small pocket knife (Its too small for me to get a good grip on, would rather use my fists).

1 Shortened pump shotgun (Cut down as far as the law allows, fully loaded with 12 gauge shells and ready to go).

5 12 gauge shells (Just incase I need to reload for some reason).

Shotgun + shells are hidden so they wont help me much if I'm surprised in my room. I can just stand up from my bed and grab a knife though which would be enough to scare off a theif with any sense.

Hmm, I need more weapons I think. I wouldn't mind having a Kanabō or a Gunstock War Club. They are more my style than knives anyway.

I see it in almost every movie. Do you guys actually wear pyjamas a lot?

I wear Pajamas but I sleep naked... (mostly because I toss and turn so much that it actually tightens anything I wear preventing me from sleeping. YES I am a very sensative sleeper)

I wear PJs because it allows me to walk around without soiling perfectly good clothes.

For example I believe it is more economic to eat before you have a shower.

Didn't realize we were also discussing bed-weaponry. I've got a zweihander and a longbow mounted next to my bed. If I had to defend myself right when I woke up, I'd be toast, but a minute or so and I'd be safe enough, hopefully.

I sleep in.... well, whatever suits me. Never wear anything less than underwear, though, because family. I wear pajama pants when I'm not going to be doing stuff outside because they are comfy.

As for defense in case of break-ins, I sleep in close proximity to one of the family machetes (we use it to chop up dead trees, works beautifully), and I have been working on coming up with ways to defend myself with various implements scattered about my room in case I can't get the machete. Because if having a smelly dude whom you rudely awakened jump on you and try to gore your eyes out with a spoon/fork/screwdriver/dental retainer isn't terrifying enough, I don't know what is.

I need some more heavy-things-on-cables-or-strings, though. Spare keyboards are nice, but I'd like to have some reach in case one of them has the sense to bring a gun.

And this is, of course, assuming that, against all odds, someone tries to rob my place out in the middle of butt-nowhere instead of one of the larger houses next to us, and then goes to my room before any of my other family members'.

Why is the 'ask about american sleep clothing' thread spelled with the non-american selling of the word?

Because "pajamas" is a much less awesome way to spell it.  ;)
