Only use wood when its absolutley necsesarry, rock pots can be used instead of barrels, cages can be made of metal, and tables, chairs and cabinets can be  made of rock. You only need wood to jumpstart the metal industry and to make beds with. I dont know much about glaciers, however.

well thats a coincidence because my 6 recruit wrestlers are currently punching an unconcious yeti to death.. somehow nobody was hurt when it decided to follow urist mcidiot down into the mines. Currently i breached the cavern and found a large pool of water. Im channeling under it and am ensuring that only aquatic things will so much as be able to reach the grate. There arent any subterranian aquatic building destroyers.. are there?

update: i am going to have to let them take turns punching the yeti as they are getting hungry

Forgotten Beasts don't breathe and can destroy buildings, so subterranean aquatic building destroyers are a worry.

Give one of them a mining pick (I assume you didn't bring any axes).
