(( I would actually like forms of potions, but based on a different principle. Rather than insta-heals, I'd like something connected to the 'magic is life force' theory I enjoy using. Healing potions would consume your mana, and rapidly heal/regenerate your wounds, but the worse the wound, the longer it needs and the more you need... And the shorter you live. It wouldn't be MUCH... but if you take hundreds per week, you'd live to be, maybe, 32? If you're very lucky. Mana pots work on the same principle. Gives you access to more mana, but cuts short what you can use later in life to live. ))

A nice essay, but I'm not sure if it's really entirely accurate. High fantasy and low fantasy aren't really all that much about the fantastical elements, it's about the style of the plots. One's average D&D crawl is a low fantasy affair. +.5 from me, in any case for a decent enough discussion (damn my lack of spell check, or I'd try to write my own).

As described, I'd like med-med.

Also, character sheets please please please please. It gets far too tough to keep these things straight otherwise.

((It took me so long to write this I have no idea if you people already established tons of canon and rules I'm now breaking.))

The convoy passed through in silence, great winged beasts-of-burden dragging their few remaining belongings behind them. The myriad scorch marks and cuts were testament to their humiliation and slaughter just three days earlier. The women, their usually colourful dresses now worn and covered in dust and dried blood, kept their eyes to the front with blank or mournful stares. The few men carried their wounds with quiet resignation and regret, scanning the horizon with their eyes. Even the children were quiet, perhaps the most abnormal fact about the caravan altogether.

They didn't meet the gaze of the citizens down on the streets. Some smiled in sympathy, but most spat and cursed at them. The message was clear - they were not welcome here. They were not welcome anywhere where the masses of land-dwellers kept rule. How long would the guardsmen allow their stay? A week at most. And if they didn't get the hint, they'd come in the night with torches...

'We'll be out of here by tomorrow.' Masih whispered. Bahat shook her head. Masih was her sister, and like her, she had shaved her head. It signified their willingness to surrender themselves to guiding spirits for travel in the Twilight World. It was a dangerous journey, and the Walkers did not always return. They also shared the same sharp, aquiline features and large black eyes of their father. They were dressed in miscellanous rags and fabrics tied together. Dozens of pouches, talismans and ornaments in all colours hanged from their clothing.

'Probably sooner, judging from their expressions.' Bahat replied, snorting. 'What do you want?'

'Father wants you to go buy supplies and food for the the animals.' Masih said, opening her palms to reveal several jewels and golden trinkets. In the past, the caravans had travelled with great treasures and wonders, but nowadays they were being forced to sell them to survive. She had heard the mighty golden lion that stood on the gates of this very city had once been carried by one of the other clans. These land-dwellers refused to admit it, which did not surprise Bahat in the slightest. The trinkets her sister was offering her would barely be worth a few barrels of fish, which was what their flies mostly ate. She said as much.

'Just get whatever you can.' Masih replied. 'We'll survive. We always have.'

Once, Bahat would've smiled at that comment. But their age was long over, and the few surviving clans were only prolonging the inevitable. What had happened three days ago just proved that. No-one offered them any hospitality any more, and no-one needed their abilities anymore. Once the land-dweller wizards had realized how to enslave and bind spirits into their service, there was no need for her people to make pacts with them anymore. She hated seeing them in such condition. Thousands, maybe tens of thousands trapped in circles all across the land. It was getting more and more dangerous to visit the Twilight World and soar with the spirits. They had begun to blame all of humanity for their slavery.

She took the trinkets and dropped them into her myriad pockets, then let herself fall off their beast. The thing was easily the size of a small building, and looked somewhat like an aerial manta ray. It carried the pile of chests and belongings on its back with ease. Bahat didn't know what it was called - their old flier had been slaughtered in the battle - but did not really care. They were quickly dying of extinction, just like the people on their backs. Would the land-dwellers even remember them once they were gone?

She shook off such morbid thoughts, and looked around on the street. Her feet sank into the mud, and she once again wondered how the citizens could live for such long periods of time on land. They passed her quickly and with angry glances, muttering things like 'witch' and 'thief'. Mothers pulled their children closer and old men spat in the ground in her way. It did not matter. She had long before grown used to it. They would forget their bigotry for gold in any case.

Worn wooden signs hanged from the side of buildings on several streets. Bahat could not make out what they said, so she picked one at random and started walking down towards it.

((I do declare that I like it. Care to have a soldier lost between world and confused as all heck join in? I'd really like to run through how Strife'd react to getting some answers about other worlds that don't work at all with what he's encountered (at least from my veiw the Twilight World and the physical setting for this game would be interconnected planes, with Strife being from outside the cluster.

How freeform should we play this? Especially as our GM isn't about now. If we all go hog wild, it's going to get tough to comprehend what's going on.))

((Feel free. You can stumble upon Bahat on the streets or the caravan itself as it moves through the city roofs. Should be easy to spot - there's half a dozen of the bigger, 'flying manta ray' beasts which carry most of their stuff and ten or so more one-man flying insectoids. Just writing this down for future reference.))

((Well, it says freeform in the title. I've been on forums where uncontrolled freeform has worked well, but those generally had less players and a moderately clear plot. So, uhh... no big events without GM approval, I guess? GM has to accept characters first?))

Arriving at the Warehouse the High Priest Danille coms over, and says "Well you go in, and finish them same as usual now go on we don't want to hang here much longer." with that both clergymen walked away, and Asgard thought Will I always be hated for somehting I can't control ? as he walked into the building, and through the dark narrow corridors after a minute of walking he comes into a room with little demons jumping all over the place. Walking into the middle of the room Asgard puts his left hand over the bands, and begins chanting "God may I be your weapon against the darkness, I who have been tainted by that very darkness shall be the sword of light for the people of this world. Now I beg thy forgiveness, and ask for you to release the bonds that hold back my inner demon. I ask thy to undo the chains that shackle me to the human wolrd, and to let me be enveloped by the darkness." As the last word faints into the darkness the Bonds break open, and fall to the floor with a loud bang, and the wood splinters under the weight. Asgard stands there for a moment as a aura of pure evil resonates from him, and a black fire consumes his body after a minute the fire receeds and standing there is something not human, but not entirely demon either it is a Asgard his skin turned red with two horns, a tail, claws, and fire covering the tips of his tail, adn his horns. " Well lets finish this shall we." says a dark booming voice that seems to be coming from Asgard, and as he lifts his hands to the side there is a sudden burst of energy as the room is filled with black fire, and the screams of demons can be heard as they are all burnt to a crisp, and the flames sated by their feast on the demons withdraw back into Asgard, and into his arm. Taking the chance he qucikly clasps the bonds back ont his arm, andas the last bolt clicks into place he turns, and begins coughing, adn as he coughs blood pours out of his mouth forming a pool about the size of a medium chest on the ground, and seconds later he falls forward, and passes out.

Askot was a mercenary, a dwarf proficient in both weapon smithing and weapon wielding, with decades of veterancy upon his granite bones. The news of unrest in Tyren spelt prospects of profit for the mercenary, and he departed from the manor where he'd been working as a houseguard and smithy, and set off for the capital of the crumbling kingdom.

The city was on verge of civil war, and the demand for steeled hands was high. He wouldn't enlist under any of the claimants without first knowing all his potential employers and the chance they stood to ascend to the throne. He hadn't survived decades of conflicts because of his proficiency in battle alone...

No one was there to watch the pool of darkness form on the wall in the alleyway, but form it did. A second later, Strife stumbled into a new plane. He noticed with part of his mind that he'd never remembered actually entering a world before. The rest of his mind had a brief, very violent civil war deciding if he should throw up or not. This left nothing to stop him from stumbling right into the alleyway's opposing wall. Shortly after that, there was a somewhat longer civil war in his mind between throwing up and throwing up not on himself.

A few minutes later the man who didn't want to be a unfading knight left the alleyway. Solitude's magic left his coat heavy and formal, with a large slit up the back and a small cape. His boots had a unidentifable spots on him, but he was relatively clean. Getting his bearings, he realized that he had no clue where to go or what to do. Strife thought back to the lessons that Bronston had given him, "Now, when I get to a place, I can almost always feel where I should be heading. Little pull on my heart, giving me hints. Don't know how it works, but it does."

Back in the Dark City, Bronston had had Strife decide to go left or right, and he'd picked right. Of course, that could've been random chance, Strife knew. Heck if his heart pulled any which was in particular. That direction seemed strongest. She was certainly dressed differently from anyone else on the street and judging from the looks that she was getting, perhaps she could use a knight. Strife walked up and introduced himself, "Hello miss, could you tell me where I am?"

Kaguro sighed to himself and he sat back in his chair, overlooking the documents on his table. Things where not going ask expected, they where still going well, but not as he had wanted them to. He called for one of his guards to come into the room and handed him a note. "Bring this to the Dwarf Fist Inn tomarrow night, you must give the innkeeper the password of 'The Griffens will rise', he will let you into the secret back room where you can give these orders to one of the 'leaders' of the 'riots" He said before haveing his guard leave the room and going back to his Documents. Kaguro had been planning this rebellion for years, he wanted the throne for himself, and all the riches and power it would bring.

((Hehe, none of our stories are actually interacting at all. Someone needs to remedy this. Also, I think it would be good if we could stick to the main plot line, the king being dead and claimants vying for the throne.))

Booker knocks another down while his shield weathers blows from angry peasants. Without warning, two of his fellow guardsmen fall to his left and his right; he is left all alone in the sea of bodies. There are still a number of guards left, but with them split up and horribly outnumbered they know that they stand no chance and Booker calls out for a retreat. Some shopkeepers run to other districts and the rest lock their doors and windows shut, hoping that the riot will pass them by. Booker turns and dashes for the nearest gate, tailed by the younger, faster riot. He feels a hand grasp at his shield and he is stopped in his tracks. Another man grabs his club and swings it at his face, his helmet absorbing some of the force. He is knocked over and trampled by the crows before they continue onwards, leaving him unconscious.
