Nobles cleaning traps during siege

Due to the way in which it seems siegers (goblins at least) calculate their path, you can't close doors securing your dwarves, namely nobles, children and civilians (if you choose not to turn everyone in to military) deep in the fortress.  This means that if you have traps go off on entering attackers nobles rush to clean them and get mamed.  This makes defending a siege very hard without using a "cheat" method.

I don't understand what you mean by "can't".  It doesn't let you?  Or is there a lag?  Something else?

When I close a door in my fortress that would prevent civilians or nobles from rushing to the front of the fortress, the siegers cease to move, mill around a little or head back outside.  I got the impression their path is to a deep point in the fortress and if it gets blocked at all they stop.

So preventing my dwarves and the sieges from having any contact via a closed door means the siegers retreat.

That's assuming they have no way to destroy your doors. (Trolls amongst other things can break doors.)

Although the seiging AI is kinda weak, remember that upon failing to get in a seige party's next course of action would be to starve you out. (Though this tactic logically works better on species that till the land, dwarves can exist self-contained within a mountain and only be deprived of their cig\vomit breaks)

They could just wait for your dwarves to be claimed by failed fey moods and hammerings.
