It seems I have based my understanding of octopus anatomy upon the movie 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

Yeah, but then you're talking about the really large octopi who do things like Steal cameras and kill sharks. The small ones you can fit in your mouth are quite a bit smaller and less dangerous (though they can be dangerous to other fish and invertebrates if you keep them in an aquarium close by, as they have the tendency to break out of their own aquarium and back into another to get a snack)

The small ones you can fit in your mouth are quite a bit smaller and less dangerous (though they do have the annoying tendency to escape from the aquarium you're holding them in)
And this is why these people are stupid. They are putting the already clever Octopi in an environment where cleverness and reasoning are the prime traits for survival. Do these people not know how evolution works!? Are they trying to get us all killed by Sapient Octopi!?

That was a giant squid, I believe. The goddamn awesome one fighting the whale?

Beijing'ers are fond of serving up fried scorpions on a stick. Occasionally still moving.

It's not an everyday snack, more in line with the way a fried candy bar would be seen in the West.

One of the best surreal moments I ever had was chatting with a friend in Beijing who was talking about how people in Guangzhou (old Canton, in the south of China) "those people are crazy. They eat ANYTHING!", and then he offered me a bite of his scorpion.  :P

Also, while on a ramble in the hutongs, I stumbled across a guy grilling large dog paws over a ramshackle coal grill. If I had to guess, I'd say either a large Chow-Chow or a St. Bernard (both are popular as meat breeds). I'm pretty adventuresome when it comes to meats, but I just couldn't do it. It's just too ingrained to see a dog as family, not feast.  :-[

I've heard some disturbing stories about how they prepare and eat live lobster.  Can't remember if it was Koreans or Chinese, but probably Koreans.

Now that is what should be criminal. I have no problem with raising animals for their meat, but for fucks sake, kill it before you eat it.

Pretty sure that would be Chinese, if it exists at all.  I think you're actually thinking of drunken shrimp.

I don't have much to add here since Hákarl has already been mentioned, but in response to the blood soup thing, I'd like to add that blood sausage is delicious :D

I dunno...the Koreans are no slouches in the "Oh dear God, you're putting that in your mouth??" department. Most of the dog served in China is up in the Northeast (Dongbei) region, where there's a lot of Korean immigrants. Most ethnic Han don't eat dog, and it's actually taboo among the Manchu.

Octopuses are evil, I don't care what happens to them.

Anyway, I'm very fond of batter-fried calf brains. I also ate pig eyes a couple of times, but they're not really all that tasty.

Pork brains in milk gravy was a breakfast staple when I was a kid. Served with scrambled eggs and some bacon or corned beef hash.

I have been trying to get pork brains for years. Nobody sells them in this town! It's frustrating.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I looked it up just to confirm. Live lobster sashimi is a real thing, searching for it reveals a few youtube clips I won't link to. Apparently the custom is to cut off and prepare the tail (where the good meat is) on a plate, then place the still living front half of the lobster on the plate as well, facing the eater, so you can look into its eyes as you feast on its flesh. I'm generally not very queasy, but this... yeah.

Do people in USA really find liver disgusting or is that just a movie thing?
