I've eaten menudo (which, oddly, tasted and smelled wonderful), heart from various animals (deer, cow, sheep, buffalo, elk, rabbit, squirrel, dog), shark and jellyfish. Not a lot of people would think that too many foods would freak me out, but there are some that still do.

My ex liked to eat "whole deer stew". It involved boiling the tongue, "head cheese", "oysters", tripe, and whole eyeballs of the deer in the blood and marrow from said deer. *shudder* If I never have to smell that horrific scent again, it will be too soon. Seriously, it smelled like ass that had been left in the sun for weeks. It tasted worse.

Not so much "ew, it smells like rotten durian" as "holy crap that's freaking creepy!", sannakji.  Ugh.  It literally means "live octopus".  The name is very close to being true.
It consists of an octopus (I consider cephalopods to be pure nightmare fuel already) that is taken, squirming and alive, and has it's tentacles chopped off.  The head is thrown away, presumably alive, and probably in intense pain.  The tentacles are chopped into bite sized portions and eaten, just like that.  Raw.  The absolute worst part is that since octopodes have neural tissue in their tentacles the sannakji is still squirming, and very arguably still alive as it's being eaten.  Apparently you have to chew it thoroughly, otherwise it'll sucker itself to the inside of your throat as you swallow it.

My father makes a habit of getting me various combinations of Suicides, the component drinks randomly chosen on his part. Last time he mixed Mellow Yellow, Pepsi, and Dr. Pepper. Crazy stuff.

On a personal level, I like to dip cheese cubes in ketchup and eat them, although that isn't that bad compared to most of the things on this list already.

My trollfather, whom I might add is kind of an ass, was given a bottle of Ghost Pepper Sauce for his birthday last year. He's been randomly mixing drops of it into various dinners of mind, and still has 1/8th of the damned bottle left. Pizza, Tomato Soup, Sandwiches, nothing is safe from him. Fuck that stuff burns, even when I'm not expecting it, which I'm usually not.

I watched a video of a guy eating a live octopus.  About 1/2 the size of your fist.  Put the whole thing in his mouth at one.  That was rather horrifying.  He had trouble chewing, because the tentacles kept reaching out of his mouth and trying to pull out.  It fought with him for a good couple minutes.  Nightmare fuel for me, especially knowing that those creatures are fairly intelligent.

I think I saw it on Crunchyroll.

I saw it in Oldboy. I honestly thought it was faked.

I remember something about octopus tentacles being relatively perilous to eat because they might stick in ones throat. Whether that is true or not, I would hardly give a live octopus the opportunity to assassinate me from within.

Wait — do not octopodes have beaks?

Madness. I vote we make the official slogan of humanity “OM NOM NOM”.

Octopi have beaks yeah, so you're probably going to have to spit those out. But as you can't eat a whole octopus (at least not a medium-sized one) you're going to have to kill it anyway (in a rather... unsavory way: Eviscerate it with your own teeth), so the odds of it doing any harm aren't great.

Why would anyone want to do that to an octopus anyway? It's not like they don't suffer...

While not common here. Eating animals while they are still alive is a practice around the world.

A really really cruel one.

I was more concerned about the notion of the octopus doing some eviscerating of its own.

It's probably too occupied with GETTING THE FUCK OUT OF YOUR MOUTH to think of that. their beaks are in between their tentacles and they're trying their best to use those to GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM THAT THING THAT'S CHOPPING THEM TO PIECES. (emphasis added to give a little insight into the mind of the victim). Besides, by the time you're done eating it's probably minced so finely that there's not much muscle left for doing damage.

I think I can be forgiven for being unfamiliar with cephalopod psychology.

To give you an idea:
That little black part in the center of our hapless victimphoto subject is the beak. As you can see it's pretty hard for an octopus to both squirm his way out of your mouth and use his beak for anything. You'll also understand that most octopi don't eat stuff that's significantly bigger then themselves.
