((Well, we do have a scientist who might be able to get it work and a scholar who has seen gunpowder in use before. Maybe with that we could make practical use of gunpowder. If that fails we could probably import the ways of gunpowder from the south.

Too busy *doodles*

((I just had an idea about the units. Watch this post

Alright, First one is simple: Heavy unit; A Str 2 unit (Or upgrade, explained in the second suggestion) that takes the same manpower of a standard regiment. However, it costs twice as much as the regular infantry due to the equipment.

Second idea: The plan is to allow two upgrades onto a unit, such as scout and cavalry. This would allow a few ingenious combinations, like pikes + Cavalry would result in lancers, a unit which gets a +7 (example) bonus against cavalry, otherwise a Str 2 unit. Some upgrades, for example Heavy + Scout or Cavalry and ambush (You try hiding a horse and rider) are incompatable and thus are not able to be done. Artillery, such as ballistae, catapults and cannons are unable to be upgraded))

(I'll do full results later, this one's a decision worth putting out first.)

The engineer studies your designs.  He reckons he and his men could manage half the traps (+1 to a fight in the woodland) at the cost of 1 Ducat, but the rest would require more men.  If you could send a fast horseman to secure additional funds from the Elbreth treasury, he could train up a second crew and get them to build the rest of the traps (+2 total trap bonus to the woodland fight) but it would cost 5 Ducats total (2 for the traps, 3 for rush-training a second engineer).  Once the traps were discharged, of course, the second crew would become available.

((Reply to King of the weasels,

Im sure that in the distant south early gunpowder weapons do exist. I guess I could just send a message south via spirit-calling to contact a trader from the south. Of course I would need some sacrifices...Anyone willing to give up an arm or a few priceless gems? I'll have to find some engineers somewhere... ))

Send a rider to Elbreth for more funds.
Message reads as follows:
Regiments under my command, All Miring Forces. Personal forces lost. Request 3 additional ducats to hire engineers for assistance in field battles. Will hold them off until reinforcements come.

((I like the idea of allowing certain types of upgrade to units. Increasing the upkeep cost but giving a versatile/stronger force, yes.))
(Edit, I should proly put a number of requested ducats)

I'm ruling for Rule of Cool reasons that gunpowder has not been developed in any part of the world that you are aware of.  Mahtan gets to have devised it, though independently the explosive properties of saltpetre are actually pretty well determined.  He's just finally managed to stumble on the right ratio.  The reason for 'Rule of Cool' is because it gives Elbreth a nice potential tech advantage that it is sorely lacking in virtually every other area.

You know, I've been strongly considering just that.  I'll revise the unit system slightly to incorporate this.  Good suggestion, and Heavy Units make sense, though I might up the initial hiring cost - unless we count the disadvantage as that of the unit using up one of its upgrade slots.  Hrm.

I'll think on this for a few minutes.

((Pretty much, a unit has two (or three, depending on everyone's opinion about it) upgrade slots. And heavy would technically be an upgrade, rather than the unit itself.))

((wait how about the glass bombs the Mongolians used?))

((Oh and about the blind eye, do you mean I can take Mahtan's eye and sacrifice it?))

((Yknow, I want to just throw out my plan here.
My plan is to cripple Mirings army, via a series of 'poor' choices, but also hopefully destroy large chunks of Prestons army. Ideally I will also find a way to kill the king of Miring (thus allowing Trubaldsome to lead some manner of rebellion within Miring, as he's next in line for the throne.) but primarily to destabilize the region allowing our army to move in to pacify it.
I will  do my damnedest to outmanuever and outfight the force from Preston. Then I'll try to lead Miring troops north, with the Elbreth reinforcements. I'll use Miring troops carelessly (even a 1:1 ratio of k/d would be fine), in order to save Elbreth lives and further weaken the Miring position. This if course is only if I havent managed to cripple their army prior to the arrival of reinforcements.
We'll have the forces in place to secure Preston as we are attacking it, and then potentially immediately return to attack Miring prior to them raising a new army. In this way we should be easily able to occupy both countries.
Odds it'll work prior to me announcing it? Reasonable!
Odds it'll work now..Less good, but still acceptable!))
