((Sorry for the delay!))

Drua grins. Her plan was working far better than expected. Sure, it was taking things a bit too far, far too quickly, but why not? Marry the noble!

Drua grins. Her plan was working far better than expected. Sure, it was taking things a bit too far, far too quickly, but why not? Marry the noble!

[1]  You accept the noble's proposal and are married that very night.  Unfortunately, you discover that aside from his tiny estate (not even a parcel's worth) he has crippling debts to the tune of -1 ducat.  You'll have to pay that off, now that you've inherited it.

[4]  Good news follows bad, in this case.  You soon hear that there was a violent uprising in the palace, during which the entirety of the court and the King's palace guard at that time were slaughtered.  The King has been cleaning house and, respecting your new husband's loyalty, has granted him the right to raise his own personal guard of troops.  Sadly no extra money or land came with that offer, the King having simply annexed the lands of the rebellious council-members, but he should be able to raise the personal guard without real cost from those retainers loyal to him and his family.

As a result of your and Terenos' combined actions, you have gained foreign Nobility status and have influence/control over your husband's 1 regiment of personal guard, but a standing debt of -1 Ducats to be repaid before you can spend any money on actions.

Rename town to Stonewood. Start a mining operation for the Iron.

[3-1]  You don't have the resources right now for a serious mining operation, so you just leave things to independent prospectors for now.  You'll tax the proceeds on the way out.

Once the last of the snow melts, Jorm and the few men with him emerge from the caves and snowdrifts that they had been trapped in. They travel the remainder of the way to the steppes and begin looking for any ztah leader that could be negotiated with.

[5]  You flee into the Ztah steppe as the new year dawns, evading the last of Sir Taric's men.  The raiders prove much more friendly than your previous encounter.  You will at least be able to recruit men to form a new personal guard here, and two clans offer their military services for a tribute payment of 1.5 ducats each.  At present, of course, you are bankrupt.

Kain pays his personal gaurd upkeep with one ducat and builds a town on his Elbreth lands with the other.

Ask the raiders if they'd be willing to waive the tribute for now and instead gain a portion of any money gained later from raids. Also ask them if they know anything about the surrounding area (maybe get a more detailed map). Either way, send small groups of my men into the neighboring areas, including Brighthall and other areas of the Steppes in order to assess the wealth of the area and if there are any armies around that pose a threat.

((Drua still has the one ducat given to her by the King, I believe. Also, is there an updated map?))

Drua curses angrily, looking over the accounting books with frenzied desperation. She has no luck, finding the totals still add up to debt. She swipes the papers onto the floor, then lets out a long sigh. She still had the money from the King, of course, but that was it. She still had her chests of poisons, potions and herbs and her map-making skills, and the advisor position...A new course of action is plotted out in her head. She would pay off the debt, return the Elbreth regiment back to the rightful owners and update the King on the situation, and then take her new husbands personal regiment on a mapping mission to the north.

Actions: Pay off the debt, return to Elbreth and update the King on the diplomatic mission, then ask the Kings of Miring and Elbreth for funding for a mission to map out Weyburn and beyond.

[4+1-1]  Word of the rich iron deposits in the region spreads and you are able to attract settlers from Elbreth to your own, competing village.  Most of the homes are built around a new, small iron mine, but you stand ready to take your cut of the wealth with your taxmen.

The town of Rustrock [can be renamed] is built on Kain's land.  It will provide 1 Ducat/year in tax.

You reserve a ducat to pay your personal guard's upkeep with.  You will be in a position to expand your personal guard by another regiment next year.

[6] You're persuasive.  Very persuasive, in fact, but not too good a haggler.  In your enthusiasm to get them to join up you promise a little more than you might have been willing to give.  The raider clans talk amongst themselves and agree that they will help out with raids to the point of lending you a regiment of their raiders each - but they demand a total of 4 Ducats in pay from the raids when they happen.  The raiders will join you in the new year.

[5] The raiders explain that the Ztah steppe stretches as far as they are aware to the south and west, and the Eelspine stretches as far south as they know to the west.  The Ztah Steppe roughly separates into five provinces; North, South, East, West and Central Ztah (you are in North Ztah).  Eelspine borders the Steppe all the way down to South Ztah.  Your own scouts into Brighthall report that of the two provinces neighbouring North Ztah (Brightwatch and Silverbark), Brighthall is still maintaining a guard of 1 regiment in Silverbark and 2 regiments in Brightwatch.

((Drua still has the one ducat given to her by the King, I believe. Also, is there an updated map?))

Actions: Pay off the debt, return to Elbreth and update the King on the diplomatic mission, then ask the Kings of Miring and Elbreth for funding for a mission to map out Weyburn and beyond.

The King of Miring proves unwilling to expend any money on exploration at this stage, desperate as he is to protect his kingdom.

You pay off your husband's accumulated debts with the last of the chest of funds the King provided you with.  You might leave the exact details out of your expense account...

[There may or may not be a map update with the new year - depending on whether I get around to drawing it.]

"Surely 4 ducats is a little much," Says Jorm to the raiders, "However if the raids prove to be that successful, I'm willing to pay it for your aid. The only thing is I can't come out of these raids with nothing for myself, I ask for simply a minimum of 1 ducat from the raid for my own men." If they agree perform a raid into Silverbark with all 3 regiments.

OOC: Do the raiders get the bonus for being cavalry or ambush units?

No, these are bog-standard infantry.  [2]  Unfortunately, you are not quite persuasive enough to get them to agree.  They are very firm on protecting their own interests here.

No.  New year starts once I have resolution on the Kaguro-Trubaldsome affair, because as soon as the new year starts the King returns to Elbreth.  I'm giving this a chance to come to a head before that happens.  =B

Agree to their insane askings, however they must understand that if the raids don't profit 4 ducats I have nothing to give them. As long as they understand this perform the raid on Silverbark and at the end of the raid send out a few scouts to watch the response of the soldiers in Brightwatch and other areas.

((Sorry I wasn't able to write up a post about the burning in time!!))

Grand Master Black nodded in satisfaction as King Erik took the torch and did the honours of burning the rebel. As the flames rose higher and higher, he and the other cyclicist followers that watched, circled their heart and offered a murmured, “Cycle anew.”

He would remain in the mountains with the rest of the Army for the foreseeable future until the most harsh weather had pasted. In the meantime, there was much to be done in the surrounding villages. Nearby a small Cyclicist Shrine had been erected. Knavston set out to make it even grander.

Invest 2 Ducats into expanding the Shrine into a Temple proper. The last ducat shall be used to pay the wages of his Crusader Guard.
