I did.  It's a viable fortress design, I'm going to call it a Castle (+3 to defence) but you'll need 2 engineers to construct it.  Difficulty +3, but the engineers are only expended on a success.  The King can decide whether to implement it.

Also, in anticipation of something that might come up soon:

Player vs Player Combat:  In the event two characters go at each other with weapons, rolls will be as per battles; opposed rolls with the winner highest.  Each character starts with three hitpoints and will lose a hitpoint on a lose or draw (winning a roll, you don't lose a hp).  Having a shield or armour (include it in your preparations) counts as a +1 and having a weapon counts as a +1.  Having guards also counts as (only) a +1.  Other modifiers may be applied by me or the King, depending on who is doing the combat rolls.  First to zero hitpoints is dead or incapacitated (and thus at the victor's mercy).  Beating your enemy's roll by 5 means you inflict 2hp damage instead of 1hp.

Meat Shields:  To stretch combats like this out, having 3 guards gives you a bonus 3hp that you can lose in a fight instead.  Of course, every time you lose one of those hp you'll lose a third of your guards.  Having 2 guards grants a bonus 2hp, 1 guard grants an extra hp.  I'm going to rule that even if you have a whole platoon of guards around you, you can only effectively have up to 3 bodyguards in a given combat.

((ohh..Oh yeah. Thats damn satisfying. I win, but at a brutal cost. Now..Now the year can end.
I have to admit, I had to club down the urge to simply kill the King and try to take over. I realllly had to fight that urge.))

Terenos slowly gets to his feet, sheathing his blade and stretching slightly.
"At least now you can be assured of who you can trust. This betrayal is far reaching indeed to have its roots in your personal guard no less. I am loathe to leave you without guardians you can trust. But I must, to save your kingdom and prevent the death of Elbreth down the road to those expansionist dogs.

Here is what you must do. Rally your army, and lay in stockpiles. You may lose your borderlands but they were likely already lost to betrayal.  Draw troops from whatever counties were not a part of this conspiracy against you. This cleansing may work in your favor. Blame it heavily on those of Preston to rally patriotic support to your cause. I can assure I will do everything in my power to bring Elbreth's army to your aid. Simply defend."

With this, Terenos begins slowly moving towards the exit, favoring his left side slightly.
"Oh, and take care of my man, I cannot in good faith move him and risk his life. I'll be back for him. I never leave anyone behind."

Get a horse and ride west, to Elbreth.
And with that, I believe I'm done for the year.

Year will end once Kaguro & Trubaldsome's affair in Sheepstead is resolved.  King or myself can adjudicate rolls, so Kaguro should send details of his defensive plans to both of us just in case.

Edit:  I was totally expecting you to kill the King and take over, yeah.  =D

It could have happened! I wanted to..I really did..But I figured I have a better shot this way. If I were to simply betray Elbreth and take over Miring, I might be able to put something together ,but Preston would still be attacking me. Not a position to win a war from.
This way, Miring is indebted to me, I can talk the King into something foolish, and Iwe'll come out way ahead.

OOC: That could be very interesting. There's already almost a war between religion and science in the kingdom, why not add magic into the fray?

Mahtan wakes up to a feeling he hasn't experienced in a long time.  A bed.  He stirs, but makes no effort to get up.  Some HOURS later, he finally opens his eyes to see the general standing by a desk talking to a chambermaid.  Mahtan goes to rub his good eye, but feels the scratch of cloth.  His hands wound in bandages.  He tries his best to sit up in bed without putting to much pressure on his hands.  The general turns and smiles, "You're awake, how do you feel".

"Bit disappointed, no offense but your not really what I was hoping to see first thing in the morning."

Mahtan raises his hands.

"Not that I could of done much with a girl with these anyway."

((I'm gonna assume your alright with me making your guy talk since I didn't say anything that you wouldn't have.  Not sure how well magic will be received, since people hate me since they think I'm a witch, and Mahtan doesn't even think witches even exist, and the thought is just laughable.))

King Erik idly watched his men set to work building cairns. That work would not be done for some days, but at least it was getting done. Turning back to the rebel and the iron wheel, the King gave a simple nod to his guards. Quickly and silently, two of the soldiers pulled Hikari back, quickly lashing him to the iron wheel. "I would have the honor of burning this dog, Grand Master." the King stated grimly, taking up one of the many improvised torches that lay about the ruined village. Stepping forward and looking the rebel leader directly in the eyes, Erik placed the tip of his torch to the collected brush beneath the wheel. Within moments, the fire had started and Hikari was burned alive.

Two or three days after the battle...
"The rebels escaped, did they?" the question was rhetorical, a simple response to Sir Taric's report. Wrinkling his nose at the stench of burning bodies issuing forth from the rebel funeral pyre, King Erik contemplated the news. After a moment, he continued "If they remain in the mountains, they are as entrapped by these storms as we are. It may be that we catch scent of them. Have a scouts sent out whenever the weather permits, and if you can see if they can create a map of the mountain range as well. I imagine Kain and yourself would have use of one in governing these lands."

Aside from the building of cairns and continued burning of rebels bodies by 2 regiments (Previously 4), 2 more of my royal regiments will be working to help rebuild the village itself -- but not the walls. No ducats will be spent in either endeavor. The last two will be on guard duty, though one of those regiments will be using scouts under the command of Sir Taric.

As far as rewards go:
-Kain is granted 1 parcel of Land in the Province of the Eelspine Range, as well as 1 Parcel of land in the Province of Elbreth.
-Sir Taric is granted 1 parcel of land in the Province of the Eelspine Range, as well as 1 Parcel of land in the Province of Elbreth.
-Both are granted 2 Ducats with which to do with as they wish.
-Grand Master Black and his Order will receive a ducat of additional funding. They are also tax exempt at the moment.

In Other News:
-A flat tax on all Landed Nobles of 1 Ducat/year per 2/parcels of land has been instated.
-Kain has the rights to do what he wishes with his land, including build a fortress. He may be able to get additional funding from the Crown, for a non-monetary price of some sort.

Current Situation of the Kingdom as of this year's end:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Note that at the moment favor has NOT been given out for actions the King is unaware of. Nor has ire.

Scout for the rebel cowards once the winter passes.
Spend one ducat building a town within my parcel in Elbreth, and one for in an attempt to find any mineral wealth within my territory.

((In addition, Iituem may want to go over that as you might have missed some things. But all in all looks good. I'm sure i'll get more favor when I've managed to tell the ridiculously embellished tale of my deeds.
Furthermore, clarify that your tax is only on your landed nobles. So theres no additional levies that may anger the populace.))

Yes, but not currently mapped or clearly aware of.  At present what is north of Weyland is unknown, or west of Brighthall.  The Ztah Steppe and Eelspine continue for quite some distance to the south.  The Gulf continues eastward at length.

[5+1]  The men build cairns for their fallen comrades and conduct a number of large pyres based around a circular theme for the rebel soldiers.  They particularly build the cairns around a single high vantage point overlooking the town and, since they were dragging one set of bodies there, also start conducting the pyres there as well.  They complete their task before the winter storms set in and so finish it by constructing a simple circular shrine to the Cyclicist god.

There is now a Cyclicist Shrine near Hikari's Camp.  This holy site can be expanded into a Temple at +2 difficulty and will thereafter accrue Tithes from pilgrims.

[1+1] Sadly the devotion to building the new shrine takes away from efforts to rebuild the town.  Without enough settlers or materials, Hikari's Camp dwindles into nothingness.  The land it took up is cleared instead and returned to the Crown as grazing land.  [+1 parcel of open land in Eelspine]

Scout for the rebel cowards once the winter passes.
Spend one ducat building a town within my parcel in Elbreth, and one for in an attempt to find any mineral wealth within my territory.

[5+1-1]  With Hikari's Camp now gone, you are able to attract the survivors to your own fiefdom.  Mostly using materials scavenged from the former rebel town, you build your own village on the land you were granted.

Taricstown is constructed on Sir Taric's parcel of land.  It will provide 1 Ducat/year in tax.  [You may rename the town.]

[4+1-2]  You do not have much success in improving the fertility of your parcel of land, or in colonising the nearby rocky reaches.  Still, your efforts garner you enough reward that you make back the ducat spent in the attempt.

Edit:  Ninja editor, there.

[4+1-1]  You hire some prospectors to drill the mountainside.  They discover deposits of Iron ore in the mountainside.  The inhabitants of your new town will likely find work prospecting and mining the nearby deposits.  (The mining industry is represented within the Town's tax income.)

Eelspine has gained the Iron resource!

New Rule/Guideline:  Town growth is now limited by the number of resources a region can produce.  With 0 Resources, a total of 2 Tax can be derived from the towns in the region.  Each additional Resource adds +3 to the total tax limit in the region.  Manufactured resources count towards this limit.

Once the last of the snow melts, Jorm and the few men with him emerge from the caves and snowdrifts that they had been trapped in. They travel the remainder of the way to the steppes and begin looking for any ztah leader that could be negotiated with.
