Have my soldiers attempt to catch up, so to speak, before they can hide the alchemist away.

!DRAMATIC SPEECH TIME!
On the dawn of the new morning, Terenos d'Avistral addresses what remains of his regiment.

"I understand we've been through a lot. So I'm going to lay this out for you. I have discovered evidence of an attack against Miring about to occur. This would ordinarily be great news for our people, But since several key nobles will defect to Preston's side during the battle..We may shortly border a very expansionist state, with the army and resources to occupy Elbreth with little challenge.

Only two options remain. We can slink home, inform the King of what transpired, And seek to win a war, defensively against a state more than twice our size. Or we press on to Miring. I have the evidence needed to convince the King of Miring of the threat to his lands, and through that potentially stop any expansionist nation near us from growing too large.

I think it is obvious what path I'm choosing. I won't ask you to follow me, because I know I'm about to do something damn foolhardy . I intend to deliver that evidence. Assistance would help, but is not required. I won't ask any of you to come with me. If you do decide to, I'd be honored to have you at my side through whatever comes. If not..Bring word of what occurred to our King."
Dramatic speech over, Terenos assists the men in breaking camp, Straps his short sword to his waist, Incriminating Evidence in his satchel, and begins his journey to Miring.

((I think the plan remains the same, Waery and co have to get the alchemist away to some hiding place or other-
But where are we, exactly? :P Oh well, Waery can think on his feet. ))

Struggling to make his way through the smoke-filled corridoors, Waery tore a strip from his shirt, wrapping it around his mouth and nose. As sweat poured down his face he glanced around, catching a glimpse of his quarry disappearing around a corner. He signalled quickly to his small band of men as he drew his sword, then they hurried along in pursuit. "Come lads, you an' you," He shouted, "Grab him an' let's get out a' here! I don' need ta tell yer what'll happen if that Kaguro bastard catches us, nor if Lord Trubaldsome finds out ye've failed!"
They needed no further encouragement.

If Kaguro's men are catching up too fast for him to possibly get away with the alchemist, he'll leave a handful of his men to distract them. But remember, that is an ABSOLUTE LAST-DITCH plan. Only if all else fails; I don't want open warfare! D:

Have the peasents go about dousing everything flamable, and trying to make the village, and wall fireproof. Have them men at the ready for battle.

OOC: Plus there's the whole "Look there digging a big fire trench in front of our wall. I wonder what they could be doing?"

Jorm approaches the men preparing for battle. "Fellow soldiers!" he shouts, "this could be the last time we ever see one another alive again. If we do die though, we know that we've died for a just cause! The King of Elbreth has too much power and is unfit for rule by himself. It was our dream to establish a place where people could live and not be under the oppressive rule of a single person. It is because of this that we founded this town ourselves. It is because of this that the king wants to conquer us! He has given us no way of maintaining our own rule and so we must fight to try and win our right to live and have our own leadership."

"Men, I honor any and all of you that may fall in the battle against the tyrant king. It is a noble cause that we are fighting for and a just reason to die. Anyone that may die should know with absolute certainty that he did it for the right reason. We have a reason to fight; we're defending our right to live as we see fit. The King's men are pathetic mercenaries fighting simply because they're being told to do so by the people that pay them. If we should win we'll have done a wondrous deed not only for ourselves but also for the country of Elbreth, because we will have disposed of their over-powerful king. You should all know as you prepare tonight, that whatever happens, we are the ones that are fighting for the right reason and we are the ones with a true cause to fight and die for!"

Help assist the troops in preparing for battle and maintain morale and order.

Terenos - Diplomacy with Miring

[4+1]  You only have three men left with you, but they've come too far and lost too much to turn back now.  Your words inspire them and all three swear to stand by you in this no matter what.  For the King!

[3]  You are able to cross the countryside in Miring without being seriously troubled, but you notice a number of border patrols belonging to local nobility.  One of them stops you but you are able to pass yourself off as travellers without further delay.  [4]  On arrival at Miring you present your battered diplomatic credentials and request an appointment with the King as a matter of great urgency.  You are redirected to his chamberlain, who whilst not the king is probably the second most influential man in the court.

[2+3]  The chamberlain is initially skeptical of your claims, but his slightly patronising air drops immediately when you show him the extensive evidence to back up your story.  Several very prominent names are mentioned; Castor, Markham, Jennet.  [5]  The chamberlain tells you that it is good you brought this to him directly... because he is probably one of the very few men in court not part of this conspiracy.  He agrees to get you into a private meeting with the king within the hour, but insists you stay put to avoid news of your arrival spreading.  [1+1]  Despite the intense loyalty of your guards, the chamberlain insists that they not be present in the meeting for the King's security and has them move into a room at the far end of the corridor.  You sit down to wait.

[1]  You wait for about half an hour.  The door opens, and three swordsmen step into the room.  One of them tips his hat and draws his blade.

"Count Castor, at your service.  I believe you have a notebook that belongs to me..."

Kidnapping the Alchemist

[2] Waery attempts to seize Mahtan, but the alchemist smacks him in the jaw in a panic and runs back through a rear entrance.  [2 vs 3]  Kaguro's regiment burst into the room as Waery pursues Mahtan alone.  Waery's men turn to face Kaguro's.  [4 vs 3]  They don't directly attack, but instead 'accidentally' knock blazing furniture into the path of the regiment to slow them down and enable an escape.  [1]  Waery gets close enough to Mahtan to make another grab at him, but Mahtan spins around and clocks him with a mortar, knocking him to the ground.  Mahtan escapes and Waery loses track of him.  [3]  Waery's men get to Waery in time and help him up, but press the urgency of escaping Kaguro's men.  They flee down a separate corridor.

Both groups of men are now attempting to track Mahtan again.  Mahtan is now aware that armed men are trying capture him.

[3]  Hiraku's men strip the most flammable materials (pitch & straw roofs etc) as best as they can from critical structures such as the granary and armoury, but are unable to get most of the buildings fireproofed before the king's ultimatum reaches its time limit.

((Well of COURSE. But yknow. I was ready for this..sort of. Unless they just have spies that good.. But yknow what? I'm not trusting anyone.))

"Well. That's as may be. But you see, I have an especially large dilemma as you may understand. I'm a dead man if I give it up. Send your companions away, Count Castor, and you and I can speak of an arrangement that spares my life. Or I suppose. " *draws blade* "The odds are a tad unfavorable but my death might be hard to explain. I'm not an unreasonable man, I'm more than willing to make a deal."

[3]  Castor doesn't send his men away, but he doesn't attack either.  He opts to spend a little time talking, though.  "So you're a reasonable man.  You know then that I'm not going to give up my bargaining position by sending away my men.  What's to stop me just killing you anyway and taking the books?"
