As Kaguro entered the court, Trubaldsome took a quick, calming pinch of snuff to control his nerves, and then rose slowly to his feet, eyeing Kaguro as he spoke.
"Ah, Kaguro." The one word dripped with acid contempt. "Here I was thinking you would hardly dare show your face before his majesty. Well, I suppose I was wrong." He paused here, glancing aside with a sad frown as a weeping Erika fled the room, escorted by a couple of guards.
"I suppose you thought she would not dare speak out against you, hmm?" Trubaldsome went on, tilting his head to one side to view Kaguro through narrowed eyes. "That the King would never learn of your... descrepancies?"
He shook his head, and set down the goblet in his free hand to gesture for emphasis, jabbing a finger accusingly at Kaguro, his voice rising with anger. "Well, you reckoned without I, Trubaldsome of Miring! I was here, whilst you, in the King's absence, let his Majesty's fair city tumble into ruin! I was here as anarchy gripped the land during your lax rule, as peasants fought, drank and fornicated in the streets from lack of punishment! I was here when you..."
Here he trailed off, and shook his head to himself in disgust, before speaking to the King, though his eyes remained on Kaguro, blazing anger. "I am sorry, your Majesty. I shall not mention it, for surely it is as hurtful to you as it is to I." Then he resumed his tirade, gesturing first to the sling around his arm, then to the sword scabbarded at his side.
"And because of that, what I saw, you decided to silence me, and the girl, hm? You would almost have suceeded, also, except that I had brought my sword, a family heirloom, out to clean it. Now,"
He turned to address the court, pointing to the sword at his belt and raising his eyebrows,
"Now I must wear it with me at all times, for my own safety! You see how far this fine city has sunk in your absence, Sire?" Addressing the last to the King, he at length resumed his seat, taking up his goblet once more and eyeing Kaguro with distaste.
