Or, if you want a different role you could always take on a position as an Arbiter and do the dice rolls and results when I'm not around.  I'm very much enjoying being able to share that duty with the King so far.

((I quess the look a like thing was completely by accident since I make all my characters like that usually (Didn't mean to give him that name it just popped into my head) as to the family thing Kekashi is the only person left from the village, so if he dies I have to make a new character with different goals, but he already has a different goals he just wants to kill the King, and start a kingdom founded on Magic (In a different place than Elbreth of course)))

((This seems like the exact same character, (demon mask and katana included.) The last character wanted to kill the king and start his own kingdom. Except the character now also knows magic and instead of wanting to replace the kingdom with ademocracy he wants a Magic kingdom. If he's a high wizard at 17, why doesn't he just make a kingdom in his homeland?))

((Heh, That sounds fun Kaguro. If Terenos dies, I'm going to play a hedonistic, nomadic barbarian lord for giggles. Yeah. It'll be fun.

Hey, I want to make a request that the year not end until after I've either died, or managed to finish my diplomacy with the King of Miring.))

((What I would do adwarf if i was you, is that I’d play the sibling rivalry card and have you hating your older brother from the moment you saw him, and grateful to the king for burning him and your whole stink rotted family. Giving him advise and occasional magic help in return for a tower. Get a new name and attempt to make yourself like a god or immortal. God's don't have a family.))

Oh and can we put a limit on if you die you make a new character with essencially the exact same adjenda? No offence but what adwarf is doing has me worried about what others might do if their character dies.

New Ruling:  No dynastic inheritance by the same player.  By all means get someone else to play your brother/sister/cousin/daughter/slave, but don't just reincarnate as your next of kin should you die.

Giving adwarf an exception on this occasion because I don't care to backdate the rule.  That doesn't mean I'm happy about it in the slightest, just that I don't it's right to backdate rules.

Chuckle to myself and nod at my men "In truth my friends, we could not have wished for better. 'Assassins' almost always get to see the King."
Calmly, reasonably ensure my Incriminating Evidence was not lost, clean my weapon, and walk calmly into the hallway.
I and my men will remain armed.
When the mob of guards arrives and they damn sure will calmly state

"I am a diplomat of Elbreth, and I come bearing news of betrayal most foul. Count Castor sought to silence me with bribes and threats of death. He committed suicide rather than face honorable justice for his deeds. Take me to the King, that I might uncover this conspiracy and SAVE THE CROWN!.
We wish no further bloodshed here today, Save that of traitors to the King of Miring."

You check your satchel.  Yup, incriminating evidence is all intact.

[1]  A platoon of guards arrive.  They appear to be wearing Count Castor's livery.  They draw their swords and attack.  [6]  Your three bodyguards and yourself perform admirably, far beyond what might be expected.  The fighting is harsh and you sustain a heavy cut to the cheek, but in less than a minute all eight of Castor's guards are dead at your feet.  Unfortunately this means that when the King's guard arrive shortly thereafter, you are surrounded by the corpses of Castor's entire personal guard.  [2]  They decide to attack first rather than challenging you, [4] but you quickly lay down your arms and shout that Castor was a traitor to the king.  They seem more willing to arrest you rather than kill you now.  [6]  You talk quickly, explaining that you were waiting to see the king when Castor attacked you.  You make it clear that you have valuable documents detailing who the traitors in the court are and that you must present them to the king to save the kingdom.  The captain of the royal guard considers this.

"So logically," he says, "anyone who presented such documents to the King would stand to benefit greatly indeed for his loyalty."

[1]  The captain attacks and, shortly thereafter, the rest of the Royal Guard follow suit.  [2]  Your men try to hold them off to no avail and two of them are cut down by the ambitious guardsmen.  The third grabs you and the pair of you flee down the corridor in the opposite direction.  [3]  The Royal Guard give chase, but you are able to keep pace with them and stay ahead.  [5]  Unfamiliar with the layout of the palace you take a few turns and wind up in a chamber with a long table.  Several noble figures appear to be sat discussing a meeting, with one noble sat at the far end.  From the livery of the guards all around the room (particularly the pair flanking the head of the table) you would guess that you've found the king and most of his council in session.  Unfortunately, the chamberlain is nowhere to be seen.

Have some of my bumbling men ask around after the alchemist, NOT wearing their uniforms this time. At the same time, have people keeping an eye out for signs of the king's return, such as runners, peasants coming in from the country, etc. Lastly, have Waery contact a young relative of the King, requesting a formal interview with Lord Trubaldsome of Miring.

((Oh, I'm not done yet, Kaguro! You've not heard the last of TRUBALDSOME!!))

[4]  Your men make some casual inquiries about town.  As far as they can tell, Mahtan is in General Kaguro's personal custody, but the General's own location is unknown.  The most secure locations would likely be his own townhouse, the Royal Barracks, the Secondary Palace Dungeons or that Kaguro is travelling to his estate at Sheepy Hollow where he has more direct control.  By this time your regiment of personal guard has recollected itself, if you wish to use them.

[Kaguro, PM me with a location and any precautions you take to guard the alchemist.  Sorry for limiting you to four locations, but I figure this way it keeps things simple.  Depending on the nature of your precautions they may make it easier to figure out which of the locations the alchemist is at in exchange for greater defensive security.]

[4]  Your spies in the court prove effective and report to you the arrival of a runner from the King as soon as Kaguro's own spies attain the information.  It appears that the King will be forced to remain in Eelspine during the heaviest point of the winter to restore order to the newly conquered town of Hikari's Camp and wait out the storms.  He will return in the new year - you have until then to complete any plots you have that hinge upon his not being present.

[4]  You locate one of the king's second cousins, an unmarried minor noblewoman.  She agrees to a formal interview, though is confused as to the reasoning.

((Every goddamn day. Am I the comedy of errors player? Well! If its the godsbedamned KING, we're doing this. (And i'm down to only 1 loyal bodyguard. Phooey. 3 was such a nice number.))
"I am Terenos d'Avistral, of King Erik's of Elbreth's court. And I come bearing a message of grave import for the King of Miring."
*pull out the incriminating evidence*
"Several nobles are poised to betray Miring when Preston attacks, ere this new year. I have been waylaid at every turn by brigands and traitors. My apologies overmuch for the mess I have left in the halls, but it would appear that all are set at keeping me from delivering my evidence to you. This evidence was lifted from the office of the War Minister of Preston, and as such should be more than proof enough. I only pray I have reached you in time, and my message is enough to save lives."

[1+3]  The king snaps his fingers.  Royal guards seize you and your bodyguard from behind, but you are able to get the journals onto the table.  A royal guardsman hands the journals to the king, who opens them and scans them briefly.  His eyes widen.

"By the gods!  Guards, arrest-"

Several of the councillors stand and draw weapons.  About half the king's own guard draw their weapons first and begin attacking their fellows whilst the councillors start murdering each other.  The pair of guards holding you and your remaining guard release you and draw their own weapons, shouting "Protect the King!"

What do you do?

Comedy of errors I don't know about, but you always guarantee a good time.  =D

Grab a weapon: Protect the King of Miring from all comers

((Incriminating Evidence: It gives a circumstance roll of +3 to everything. Failure? I think NOT.
Also, Everything keeps working out for me in the end, I think this will too.
In addition, Thatkid? I have a plan here, and I may in fact be a bit late returning to Elbreth.. This could work out to our advantage though..Very much so. You'll see. If I live.))

[2] You and your guardian, Manning, try to get to the king but are cut off by rebel guardsmen.  [5]  Fortunately, you are both excellent swordsmen.  You move back-to-back and clear a path through the melee until you get to the king, shouting that you are here to protect him.  [4]  The king himself is holding his ground, but trapped at the far end of the room.  You join his most loyal guards in a ring around him and suggest an escape.  At this point the guard captain who attacked you arrives with his men.

[1]  "This man is trying to kill the king!" one of the rebel councillors shouts.  The king tries to declare otherwise, but his voice is swallowed up by the sound of the fighting.  The guard captain starts fighting his way towards you, turning the council room into a vicious three-way battle.  [4]  You get the king and his guards onto the long table and try to fight your way forward, gaining a little ground before a knot of rebels get up on the table and charge.  [6]  You, Manning and the king's guard are driven into a frenzy, slaughtering nobles and guardsmen left, right and centre.  You perform a little too well, though, and eliminate most of the loyalist guard who just arrived.  Nevertheless you are able to reach the end of the room.  The handful of nobles make one last rush for you, [6] but you are able to hold them off long enough for the King and his last two guards to reach safety.  Sadly, Manning takes a slash to the leg and goes down.

[3]  You pull him back, bleeding and incapacitated, before the nobles can finish him, but are only able to shut the door on them.  [3]  The door only holds the nobles long enough for you to get Manning out of harm's way.  It breaks down and a solitary noble and two rebel guardsmen face you.  [4] The king's men join you for the last fight.  [1]  They prove less than a match for their rebellious kin and are taken out in the first exchange of blows, leaving you alone against the attackers.  [1]  The king draws his sword... and flees like a coward.  Last stand time, you guess.  You ready your sword and charge into the fray.

Twelve seconds later.

You slump to the floor by Manning, cutting a rag from the last noble's tunic with your sword's nicked edge.  [6]  You tie a tourniquet around the gushing limb, stemming the flow, but it seems unlikely the leg will make it even if he does.  Blessedly, he seems to have passed out from the pain.  There are a few low moans from the council room now, so you move through the open doorway and silence them.  The grim service done, you turn to find the King of Miring in the doorway - ashamed and afraid, his entire palace guard and council dead.

"Thank you, stranger, for your aid."  He stares in shock at the massacre.  "My chamberlain told me that the ambassador of Elbreth sought me on an urgent matter.  He would not give details, so I dismissed him.  Now I see why.

"You have done me, and Miring, a great service.  The traitors have been wiped out, but so too has my entire court.  Without those nobles, I have only our small royal army and navy to depend upon.  We have no choice - the nation of Miring throws itself at your feet.  If Preston attacks now, we are as doomed as if the nobles had joined their forces.  We offer you a full military alliance against Preston, under whatever conditions you deem necessary.  Convey this message to your king.  I don't care who you have to bribe in his court, just get us the troops we desperately need."

Edit: Didn't put it in for drama's sake, but the 'last stand' roll was actually a 5.  I didn't fix this one - his luck prevailed at the last moment.
