The King's Chamber, Early Spring...

(Mahtan) "You are neither the Chronicler, nor Marchioness Drua," Erik replied sternly, "I might remind you that it is this castle which houses you, and Crown funds which have payed for your assistants. And as long as you work for the crown, I expect you to let at least Commander Leif or Bjorn know where you are going before you leave. You do understand that Suul has done all but declare war on us, no?"

He paused a moment, rubbing his temples as he let out a sigh, "Regardless, you may go now and return to your...studies, or whatever it might be that you're doing. I may need you to instruct a crown engineer in the creation of gunpowder soon enough, however. There will be need of it. There has been need of it, but you could not be found."

((black powder, there are no guns..yet))

"Hm... You are right, it would of been a shame for me to die in Suul, and I did not know how cold the political climate was between your nation and theirs."

Mahtan began to leave.

"But I do suggest one thing, if this is a war of religions, do not fight fire with fire.  It's one thing to defend your beliefs and another to force them.  And if your god truly loves his people, he wouldn't want to see them harmed in his name.   Same could be said for a King and his citizens."

Jormund replies calmy to Manskinner, "I'm an Ex-Knight simply because I chose to be. I didn't believe in the way that Elbreth was ruled so I left. Unfortunately, I made some poor decisions that made me slightly unpopular in both Elbreth and Brighthall. I don't like working for a pompous King anyways. I came to your lands simply by luck but I figured I would make the best of it anyways, I don't plan on being here permanently. I simply thought that I could gain some by working here, and you could gain some by having me here. If I was wrong I can leave if need be. I'm sure the Munros or someone else would be willing to take in a fighter willing to work for them.

Slow the ship, anchor for boarding. Have the crew attempt to explain for some sort of arrangement due to being owned by me, former pirate aboard the 'Nalian' whose captain has since died and we've not had a chance to return to Suul to speak with the Archbishop. If they'd like to make arrangements to see the old captain's marque we'd be glad to provide it

"Ah yes come in..."
Kain gave the man a smile.
"There is a problem that the Ministry needs handling...A man by the name of Sir Taric has gone missing in Miring and he is beneficial...to the crown.
This mission will be most likely be fraught with danger and possibly complications..."
Kain pauses.
"Your mission, if you chose to accept it is...find Sir Taric and bring him back to Elberth, alive...Taric, if he is still alive will most likely reward you more then I can and the king will be happy of your help...I will personally pay you a ducat now and a ducat next year on mission completion...maybe more. If he's dead, report back to me immediately...you will still receive a ducat on completion and another ducat next year. Make sure it isn't just gossip if he's dead."
"This mission is too be kept on an incredibly low profile, not even the king can know that the Ministry approved this or that I am meddling...until its done of course...and you will reiceive all of the credit...Im a ghost in this, so don't rattle the floor."

"Find sir Taric, bring him back alive or report if he is dead, keep low profile, and ask for a reward if possible. Aye, sir."

He took the gold, and a moment after that he was gone. Riding to Miring would take a long time and he had none to waste.

Later still...

Mask was glad to have finally have funds to play around with. Desperately few funds, but still, any money was still better than none. He went to work immediately.

Hire 1 Spy specialist. Send message to the Storm Coast trading guild that I (under the guise of the name Decklan Lakeside), wish to join their guild. If my offer is accepted, immediately take out a loan of 1 ducat from the guild and build a weaving (textiles) workshop in Sheepy Hollow for 3 ducats. See if I can haggle the price of the business down to 2 ducats before taking out the loan.

Kain drew his sword when the man jumped out and then gave a small twitch of a frown before slowly putting it back into its sheathe. Giving the two boy "Knights" a glare that could boil water.
"If you were under my control, boys...you would be getting twenty lashes each."
He turned his gaxe back towards "The Mask" he frowned.
"Lets conduct this in my...Heh..."office"."
Kain walked with a slow pace to a room the size of a middle class man's dining room, where he sat down a chair and leaned back.
"So whats all this about, Mister Mask?"

The King's Dining Hall, Early Spring...

Erik could hold his own quite well, though by the time Terenos retired his head was swimming. After spending some more time with his guard, Erik rose to retire to his own chambers when Commander Leif stepped into the room. Leif coughed, and the room fell to silence as Erik awaited the message.
"My liege, another messenger from Aulon yl Marchis has arrived..." the Commander began. "Very well, does he bear the same letter as the past two?" Erik queried, doing his best to hide his annoyance at this trivial bit of news. The Commander gave a short nod, and then quickly continued: "Yes, m'King. But he is accompanied by yl Marchis himself."

Erik blinked, and looked about the room. The Knight guards were young boys, and drunk to boot. He sighed, and moved to the door, "One of your three Shield regiments will be enough, Commander. Come, we will meet them at the gate."

Accompanied by Commander Leif and his disciplined infantry, Erik calmly strode to the gate to the courtyard to await yl Marchis' arrival.

"Bloody weather..." Hans looked out of the window and turned back to his writing. The weather wasn't the best one, he still waited for better conditions in Preston. His ships were filled to the brim with logs of pine wood, waiting to be shipped to Vasir, which was hungry for raw materials. This was the sort of trade that Hans was prepared to conduct all the time. Quick run along the coast and big profits. But his own guild was keeping him down. So far almost all of his gains turned into payments into guild. He needed to solve that dillema. While the credit was helluva useful thing, he could not rely on it all the time, otherwise he will never get out of the loop. He was suppossed to make mony for himself, not for them. This shipment of lumber looked promising, and if Elbreth continues to overproduce wool, then shipping to Vasir, or safer land route to Suul would become the foundation of his own company and his own monopoly.

It was interesting to see this kingdom grow and then collpase into civil war so quickly. At the first sight of greater things most of the nobles turned their backs on their monarch and decided to rip the country apart. God knows what might happen next. A noble council? An elective king? He heard of stories where a weak monarch had to support himself though such measures, and then country ended up in hands of fools. It would be a shame if something like that happened in Elbreth. After all, his giuld, although strong, could never completely free itself from the constant conflict that plagued the divided Storm Coast region. What was needed was a state that could enforce law and order. A state that would protect the interests of burghers and merchants. After all, it was the middle classes that created wealth in Storm Coast, and Elbreth seemed no different. And if Erik was unable protect them, then it was up to Hans to do something about it....
