a Chief or a Hersir might also hold this position
at every point this position can be stripped away by the person who gave it in the first place or by the Jarl himself
Herse

may not lead troops into battle if he doesnt own the position of Hônd.
may speak right as he sees fit in his own land except for the cases of cowardice, treason and rape which always include the death- sentence and need to be fulfilled by the Herse himself.

may appoint new Hônds
this position is inheritable
Landseti

in the Weylands:Jormundur:As you talk with the various Veterans you quickly figure out how the whole military structure of Corvs Army works. He seemed to have tried to change pretty much in the culture and social structure of the Weylands which leads at some points to confusion. Other things the Jarl tried to manifest seem not to be taken well by the people or ignored, but you get the general idea the Jarl went:
each Army is lead by a man owning the title of Hônd.
each Regiment is lead by a Fylkir who is appointed by the Landseti fighting in that regiment.
each regiment consists of Lendemadrs, Free Men who own land and slaves and come from the same regions. They organize in "Packs":
Those Free Man don't need to go back to their farms and homesteads as their women and their Thralls are taking care of business. Their Packs consist of ten Lendemadrs who choose one among them to be the Landseti, who settles smaller disputes and leads them into battle.
apparently Slaves are not serving in the military as they have ended as Thralls through their cowardice in the first place. Free men who don't own slaves or Land (Strakrs) are fulfilling positions in para-military units like the Blôdvindr-Raiders, which allows them to amass lands and slaves more easily.
After that you are told that the armies of the Manskinner rely on Terror Tactics. The enemy needs to be under constant pressure from ambushes, raids and piles of burned, skinned and crucified corpses. The soldiers span their shields with human skin and paint them in blood to inspire terror in the enemies. Attacks are preferred at Midnight, somwhere between 3 and 4 o'clock or at the dawn to catch the enemy at the unlikeliest of times. The veterans as you soon realize carry cloaks of wolfskin which are awarded if one has survived atleast several battles and shown great prowess in fights. Even rarer are Cloaks into which crow feathers were wrought. It seems only the very best are allowed to sport these. You are also made familiar with the concepts of Reward and Punishment in the army. If a regiment those well it is often awarded Slaves by the Jarl or a Hersir. If they show cowardice the ritual of the Parting is done. The Regiment draws lots and every tenth men is beaten to death by their comrades. Afterwards the malperforming Fylkir is executed (by his succesor in the way he sees fit) and a new one needs to be chosen. It seems like a cruel system but it works. The soldiers mostly fear repercussions more than death in battle.
((OOC: i hope that suffices for now, if you want to know more...ask))

In the Camp of Jarl ManskinnerThe Manskinner looked at the three men before him. he was silent. thoughts of all proportions were racing through his mind.
Greetings good sirs. I must apologize for my mistrusting guards and that they kicked the guest right with feet. They will be flogged after this meeting. And graciously i accept your bribe. But i hold no respect for weaklings who are too great cowards to send others to do the fighting. Apart from the fact that Elbereth isn't exactly rich, It seems Suul is a far better prize to take. It is richer and a Church-State which as far as i know isn't exactly known for the prowess of it's warriors. he stood up from his Oaken Throne. Slowly he made his way next to them.
You meant to lose the dogs of war. But we are no Dogs, we are wolves. And if you try to train a wolf with morsels he will take it and then rip your arm off. I am no babarian which you can bribe with some shining trinkets.he spat out at that. He lifted his hand in a movement to slap the man but thought better at the next.
I personally will escort you back to your camp and get the other 2 ducats for that. Then we will together travel safely back to Suul.he took a well measured pause.
With a small stop in the Elbereth Capital...but for now you will be my guests.with that Corv beckoned some guards to free the representatives and force them to take a seat in the longhall. It was only half an hour later that Reg tumbled with the Cousin of the King strapped to his back into the room.
Reg finally your back i already thought you dead! Who is that wench on your back?Reg gently took the women of his back and set her on a nearby seat. then broadly grinning he turned towards Corv. The Emblem of Elbereth was clearly visible on her clothes and Corv frowned.
She's the wench o' the King and meant ter marry me!why the hell did you carry her in then?Thought it chiwalrus...thats wa' those wenches o' the Elbereth like or not?Exactly what he needed...a political incident before relations with those guys have even properly begun...
Corv sighed deeply before he continued
Ok Reg...lets do the follwoing lets just ask that woman what she wants? If she consents to marry you then fine otherwise i will take her back to ElberethFiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine....and send a Messenger to the Doctor he will take rule for me as long as im going to Elbereth...
take the 2 Ducats bribe
Raise a Regiment of Heavy Blôdvindr Raiders for 3 Ducats
ask the Cousin of King Erik whether she want to marry Reg McRiar else take her with me to Elbereth
bring back the messengers to the their camp and get the other 2 Ducats
take the freshly Raised Regiment of Heavy Raiders with me, the messengers (and King Eriks Cousin propably) and make my way to the Palace of Elbereth to meet up with King Erik ( make sure to raise a peace banner as soon as they reach the Border of Elbereth)
award the position of Steward to MCJohnston (which allows him to take care of the Weyland Jarldom as long as Corv is away)

((ooc: hope that was everything half the evening i didnt manage to post this due to shiny things...))
EDIT:
indeed Terenos i thought the same things and by the way i was and never will be interested in taking over Elbereth if it is much more lucrative to trade with them. I can sell them soldiers, slaves, tin and coal and(propably) ingredients for black powder. Apart from the fact that Suul is far more ripe than Elbereth. A small state with enormous amounts of money? Adding to that that they are some kind of Papal-State equivalent and they cry out for plundering and burning. I hope McJohnston proves some kind of wise ruler while the Manskinner does the...man skinning...
