Shaper as in Geneforge. Again. This will likely end up not very accurate to the lengths of apprenticeships and so on, but it'll be better than last time. Probably, anyway.

Three choices of class, even though to outsiders you will all be called 'Shaper':

Guardian: "I AM THE ONE WHO MAKES THE ENEMY FALL DOWN!" Likely not very smart. Strong. Heavy Armor is a possibility. Better than the Agent at shaping, but thats not saying much. Least likely to die via magical accident/experiment fail. Very large need for healing pods (or even more armor, or extra meatshields). Starting stats: 150 HP, 50 Energy, 100 Essence, Chitin Armor.

Agent: "Need something done in the night?" Sneaky. Best spellcaster. Not very good at shaping, but can still make a weak pet or two if they want. Fast. You must construct additional pylons. acquire much energy. Starting stats: 100 HP, 200 Energy, 50 Essence, Random number of Living tools below 10 (or a thorn baton with a couple reloads)

Shaper: "Do you not see the importance of this being undisturbed? Shut up!" Obviously, best at Shaping. Not very strong or durable. Want a large guard force of your own creations? Make it. Most likely to die from magical accident/experiment fail, since that pretty much what they usually do if they aren't fighting, or doing something else. Very large need for Essence. Starting stats: 50 HP, 100 energy, 200 Essence, Discipline Wand (fully charged, 12 shots)

Shaping Guide:
[Creation] skill rank affects how many half-cost or free points you can give to a creation on creation. (Ex: Fyora VI would let you give it a half-cost point in three areas or one free point and one half-cost point. Stats still cannot pass their maximum, though.)

Strength: Affects Physical damage and other things requiring strongthings. Max 10, but don't expect a 100 Str fyora to be able to out-punch a Battle Alpha (a 100 Str Battle Alpha, on the otherhand, would be able to put a sizable dent in a mountain). 2 Es for the first two points, 4 Es per point after 2. Every 2 is +1 damage bonus to melee. (Essence cost for 10 points: 36)

Dexterity: Ranged equivalent of Str. Helps with aiming and range (and to an extent dodging), but it has to be within sight range. (either yours or the creations) Same Essence use per point and maximum as Strength. Every two is +1 to ranged attack, 5 points is +1 to evasion. 10 points adds 2 to evasion. (Essence cost for 10 points: 36, Bonus Total: +5 to ranged damage, +3 to evasion.)

Intelligence: affects resistence to effects. Is also whether you can control your creation or not (requires 2 Essence). 4 Es per point past the second point, Max 10. (More than 4 int will require Leadership to keep full control over.) (Essence cost for 10 points: 38)

Endurance: is Endurance. 4 Essence per point, 20 max. every points adds 2 health. Point 20 adds 4 instead of 2. (Essence cost for 10 points: 40, Max health bonus of 42)

Stats taken from here. These are the Geneforge 5 stats, since that has all the possible creations in it. (Spoiler!, I guess) Unless the rogue is mentioned to be in someway different, it uses the base stats.

Attack/Defence: Creation Tier times their Str or Dex, with bonuses. Roll determines hits and how much is dodged. 6 is crit hit/counterattack, 5 is complete dodge (no counter). 4 is 2/3rds damage, 3 is half. Lower than 3 is full damage, Rounded up if needed.

Creation:
1 is utter failure, wasted Essence.
2 is near-useless creation
3/4 are nothing more than what you wanted.
5 is a differently colored one, or some other random bonus.
6 is a perfect creation (+1 to all four stats)

Story prelude:
The Shapers are the most powerful of the magical sects. Shapers have the ability to create and alter life, to create beasts to do various tasks such as domestic work, labor, and combat. Using Essence, shapers can mold their creations into being. This process can be simple and quick, or long and exhausting for more complex creations. They guard their secrets extremely closely, and to learn their techniques without permission is akin to asking for a quick and assured death, whether by Guardian blade or Agent spell.
The Shapers also govern the lands under their control. Their territory is headed by the Shaper Council, a group of nine elite Shapers, who meet to discuss issues to keep peace and prosperity.
It has been a very long journey, but you are finally an apprentice Shaper, with only the difficulty of learning (and surviving) the final task of working at a remote research outpost that is not entierly rogue-free yet.. Some, like you, succeeded greatly in the training. Others died horribly and were forgotten. The chances still are not much in your favor for survivng to full Shaperhood, but it is not impossible; after all, you've made it this far. Go forth and succeed, or die trying.

You have it backwards. the unused points vanish, the skills do not.

The two of you arrive at Zio on your draykboat without any major problems. In the distance, you see the main complex atop the hill, the town around it quite a bit less distant, and next to you, the fairly quiet port. A harbor man walks up to you and asks why you are here, what you want, and if you are Shapers, or just a hooded guy and a thief.

The Unekaru family have been noble shapers for many generations. Haika's blood can be traced back to the creation of the very first servant, Or at least that's how he explains it. He grew up in a shaper lab while his father experimented on shaping from the bio pools. When one experiment ran rogue and slew his parents, he managed to conjure up a giant artila and kill the mutated beast. This gave him both excuse and prestige enough to be named as a full shaper.
