Update 2: The First PurgeLog of Overlord IronyOwlTrouble looms at Synergy. The population is growing too large to effectively manage, and in order to avoid rioting, I've redirected workers to maintain mineral production while decreasing food surplus. I forget how that results in a stable population rather than starvation and more riots, but no matter.
I do manage to devise a cunning place for our next colony. With Morgan and his dogs boxing us in, hoping for clear areas along the coasts seems our only option. I realize another, however:
Hohohoho.
My advisors seem somewhat divided on the correct course of action, but "drown them in an unrelenting tide of corpses" comes up more than once. Fortunately, our researchers discover how to make the same sort of laser weaponry as the dogs we're fighting, making the wave upon wave idea mostly unnecessary.
It's a good time for military advancements, as Morgan launches two assaults on our new base. Both are defeated, and our own forces begin preparing the inevitable counter attack.
A slight tactical error results in some really very minor famine: Withdrawing the damaged guardian right next to Morgan's base allows him to seize the rocky formations they were using as cover, as well as the ruins next to it. This is a slight problem because it's the forward base's only source of food, something I hadn't quite realized until now. On the bright side, with the excess population shed and nothing better to exploit, they focus exclusively on the rich mineral deposits north of the base.
With the completion of several units of heavy infantry, our forces begin moving into position to assault the enemy base. Predictably, Morgan takes this opportunity to assault our own, guarded now by "only" two units. Predictably, the battle is a disaster- he loses all three assailants, and our outpost remains strong.
The assault on Morgan Studios is surprisingly swift and decisive- only one synthmetal sentinel was assigned to guard it, and they were promptly defeated. The base did not survive the... trauma of being captured.
Realizing now the folly of his actions, Morgan attempts to buy me off with credits, then technology. When those fail, he tries to outright surrender, offering 298 credits and four (!) new technologies. It's a tempting offer, but I refuse- the Morganites are in my way, and will continue to be so no matter how much of a sniveling underling they claim to be. Large though it is, this planet has no room for dissent from our glorious collective.
Unfortunately, the battle is far from over. A tactical blunder leaves an assault unit on open ground, where a Morganite force is able to wipe it out. Another assault unit fails to penetrate the defenses of Morgan Collections, though a third succeeds in wiping out the Morganite force in the open. Our remaining troops are forced to regroup and continue this conquest another day. Nonetheless, I've officially declared this military action The First Purge.
Also, Secret Projects are being initiated all over the place, but there's not much I can do about that with Morgan still in the way.
