Everyone plays University, it's boring now. Hive, Max Fauna, Transcend Difficulty.

I'm adding my support for 30-50% Land, High Erosion, Dense Cloud Cover, Spoils of War, and a Huge map. Final Destination.

Right, yeah, huge map. Also, minimum cloud cover. Make it a war of industry.

Hive, transcend and max fauna, for the added challenge. I personally like TINY maps, as you can breeze through a game in a few days.

Custom rules:
Spoils of war NO  - it's more stylish to cow your enemies into handing over their precious secrets, rather than just stealing them like a common vagabond.
Unity survey YES - a little forward planning won't hurt.
Random Events OFF - sunspot activity disrupting all comms is a real buzzkill (and total BS to boot, it always dumped me right out of immersion whenever it came up).
Do or Die OFF - even our enemies deserve a second chance (in classic bond villain style).

With Spoils of War on we'll get higher up the tech tree before the game ends, causing Fun. Random Events are chaos in a box and cause Fun, so I vote for them to be on.

Random Events are chaos in a box and cause Fun, so I vote for them to be on.

The sunspot activity random event is the opposite of a good time. It stops all communications for about 20 turns. Since negotiating with the other powers is such a vital part of the game, this somewhat puts a damper on things - you end up with a very boring game for 20 turns. Never mind the immersion-busting notion that you can't even send a diplomatic envoy to a neighbouring faction.
I have no beef with the other random events, but they're not interesting enough to be worth the risk of sunspots.

My objection to Spoils is that it makes tech a lot more trivial to obtain, reducing challenge. I say it's more fun to have to steal tech using probe teams.
