What Happened to the [SPEED1] cheat?
« on: July 07, 2011, 10:30:54 am »

I am sure many of us know the old speed "cheat" which effectively makes Dwarfs move SUperfast.
Something very useful in starting a Dwarf, and in combating FrameRate Destruction in later games.
Now, unless I am missing something in the raws, I no longer see "SPEED" in the creature rars to edit.
Where did it go?

Ask not what the Dwarfs can do for you...
But ask.... why are they drunk all the time?

It still works, you just have to manually add [SPEED:1] to the dwarf entry, there's a default speed when no [SPEED:#] is listed for a creature.

A three year old just made an artifact doll from the skull of his dead kitten. I can only assume the mind control lasted past death.

IIRC [SPEED:0] was the fastest speed possible.

Yep. The dwarves virtually teleport around.

IIRC [SPEED:0] was the fastest speed possible.

For maximum fun, set their swim speeds to 0 too.

If you keep a standardized speed for land and set the swim speed to 0, it looks like the creatures gain the ability to merge and reform on the other side of the 3/7 puddle of water.

SPEED still has an effect, it just defaults to 900.  Every creature without a specified speed will have a speed of 900, not counting for agility and such.  To move it off the default, just add the tag and a number.

In my experience, [SPEED:0] has no effect, and the fastest possible is [SPEED:1], but I know [SPEED:0] used to work, so YMMV.

SPEED:0 works fine. The speed formulas are not changed since 40d, with Agility simply modifying the stat. Check the wiki.

so a perfectly agile dwarf with [SPEED:0] would be able to move back in time to correct  redo his past mistakes!

Yeah.  Thus why I didn't make a trap.  In it's current state the fortress didn't need a trap, the whole damn fortress is a trap.

I've done [SPEED:0] before, and it's exactly the same as 1... every dwarf moves one tile per frame, no matter what.

Huh, just tested it and it works fine.  I must have made a typo and broken the tag that one time or something.
