;D   When you reclaim a fort that was just taken by a siege, press U. It shows all the occupants of the fort, the invaders are friendly!! Yay reclaim, now just waltz back through the main entrance, ignore those invaders for they are friendly.

:D Whenever possible, cook seeds. Its nice and crunchy.

There's a new mouse driven beta GUI in the latest version, you just have to enable it in the init file.

Using floodgates to channel water is a useful and important thing.
(This -is- nothing but good advice... as long as they know how to use a lever. Mwahahaha)
Fey moods of any kind always lead to amazing and useful artifacts of the highest quality possible. You shouldn't do anything to impede Urist while he goes through one, even if you don't have the materials or workshop needed at the moment.

Dig straight down until you find the magma sea. Then drain cavern water into the sea.

It'll make obsidian which you can now mine!! You are now a true dwarf!

^Heh heh heh I expect at least low FPS with or without a floodgate, maybe a crash.

Now excuse me, I myself need to make the obsidian solution and pass my own initiation. *struts off whistling about badgers*

Steal everything that the caravans bring with them every year. Currently, trading is bugged, so there are no consequences for taking items rather than trading for them. :)

Dwarves are already pretty good at hand to hand combat. A squad of five unarmed dwarves should be enough to repel a siege.
As a new player, I felt the need to try some of these out.
This one worked.
Sadly, hugging the badgers was less successful.

Just a quick question: Is forcing the caravans to use the path of Death (with the happy spikes coming up and down and up all the way) considered stealing?
Well, I didn't tell them the way was safe and they wouldn't care anyway - and since Urist Triggapulla had SO much fun with his task I didn't mind them leaving so soon. There's also them gobbos around - we saved them from the green pest - sort of...

Stealing in the sense you get stuff without paying. You can also get the stuff by forbidding the trade depot or deconstructing it while they're trading. However, the Wiki mentions that the parent civ may realize you're swindling them and attack even if you don't "officially" seize anything.

hmmm, maybe the worst advice would be "Make sure you upgrade your graphics card, but don't worry about processing power".  ;D

Yeah, the HURR DURR BOLD-FACED LIE advice is dumb. It's much more clever (and better in the long run) to give good advice that newbies aren't yet ready for. Speaking of...

* If you embark with lots of cats, you can butcher the kittens for leather, bone, fat, and meat!

* Animals have a lot of hereditary traits. If you're diligent about killing off the weak males, you could have an army of musclebeast wardogs in a few short years.

* Social skills increase a dwarf's stats.

Agreed with JoystickHero about the generic quality of blatant trolling.

* Dwarves gain happy thoughts from having their own bedrooms and dining rooms. The better furnished the room, the better the thought, so equip the rooms well.
(technically true, but it is hard and tedious to create great dining rooms and bedrooms for each individual dwarf. A great communal dining room and a simple bedroom are a much better choice)

* Cattle is a good source of meat, bones and hides.
(true, but it's also a source of micromanagement)

* Caverns offer lots of storage space, farming area and plenty of useful resources like silk.
(if you can keep the GCSs and FBs in check, that is)

It's best to get as much wealth as soon as possible as you'll get more traders and migrants.
