Worst advice to give a new player?
« on: July 07, 2011, 06:20:31 am »

So I'm not advocating that anybody intentionally lie to others here, but I've often thought about funny ways to mislead new players. Telling them things like "be sure to fill your danger room with real spears" and "always give your sherriff the best weapon available" are obvious ones, but I can't help but think that others can think of yet funnier things to definitely not tell new players.

Keep in mind that the dwarves are essentially alcoholic toddlers, and act accordingly.

Not much of a bad advice and more of a troll, but handing a DF copy where a few critters have [DRAGONFIREBREATH] could work.

I should try that, for !!science!!

Did you know that if you write 3.14 on a piece of paper and hold it in a mirror, it will say pie? And if you divide 42 by 3.14... you get 13.37!

dwarves hate plump helmets. you should always start with a giant supply of dimple cups instead.

It isn't a new Dwarf Fortress version until we're made to fear some kind of regular creature.  Carp, Elephants, Unicorns, Badgers, and now Mosquitos.  I've got 5 dorfBucks on the next one being plagues of groundhogs.

Forgotten Beasts are actually diplomats from civilizations you haven't met yet.  Once they meet with your Mayor, you unlock the ability to trade with those civilizations.
