((I never said you should stop RP'ing :P

Also, if you've got an econmic model laying about, I'd take a look at it. I'm working on my own now, anyway.))

Okay, my model is simple.

A city X has 100 low class (Peasant) families.  Each family has about 8 people in it.  Each family has 12 points worth of labour, which you can spend on gathering things.

Like....
Harvest food (1 point)
Gather Wood (1 point)
Carve Wood (2 points)
Mine Stone (3 points)

(Yield depends on location, an example is that in fertile farm land you will get 2 food per harvest point)

And each family will have basic demands, for the low class it would be something like...

Permanent stuff-

8 wood house (Not carved)
3 carved wood furniture
1 metal furniture

and per income/turn (One of your posts)

8 food (1 per person)
1 wood (Not carved) for repairs
1 gold coin (Or in raw value, extra materials worth that much) (You can tax the rest without an issue -1 loyalty per gold coin taxed in that, +1 loyalty per coin left)

Now of course a system like this sounds complicated, but it really isn't.  You do things in masses

City X is on normal land, and has a balance of reasorces.

Your peasants need...(Assuming you have the permanent stuff)

800 food
100 wood repairs
and at least 100 gold coins to be spread across the poor.

100 families X 10 points of labour each= 1200 points of labour

800 points spent on harvesting 800 food.
100 points spend on gathering 100 wood.
300 points letting peasants make 300 gold coins worth of items, 200 taken as taxes.

You can also change how much they make.

You can take 2 people from each family to fight as militia, costing 2 points of labour.
You can specialize a family to do only one task, giving them 5 more points of labour.

among several other things.

Thoughts on this?

-Sample Economy-
Hmm...I might try to add your labor system to what I have planned.

See, I'm thinking a system of food/consumer goods, needed 1 for each population point...maintaining armies would require an intial infrastructure investment, than a constant supply of that specific good-leather for armor, metal/wood for weapons, etc.

tell me if anyone understands this!

Province of Windheath

Windheath is a small province of the Human ruled Kingdom of Apitula, located on it's Northern Border, and edged by the sea. It's not an easy place to live in-seven months of year are dominated by freezing temperatures and ice storms that make land and sea travel difficult-and the Ice Races that live on it's borders are numerous, and raid the province often. Still, the people here are proud and hardened, and ruled fairly-most of the time. For such a cold land, it's remarkably fertile-what we grow here, fish from the sea, and hunt from the forests feeds our neighbors and ourselves quite well, thought some years are worse than others. We've significant resources of rare herbs, exotic hardwoods and leather, but our mineral resources are often competed over with the Dwarves.

Population: 50 Units and growing

Producing Yearly
100 units of food (Potatoes, Rye Grain, Fish, Pork, Game Meat)
75 units of Hardwood (Needed to support armies)
10 units of leather (Needed to support armies)
10 units of herbs (???)
25 units of metal (Needed to support armies)
25 units of stone (consumed in bulk for building)

Natural Resources/Total Exports
50 Units of food at 5 gold per unit, +250 Gold
50 Units of Hardwood at 10 gold per unit, +500 Gold

Natural Resources/Total Imports
50 units Woodwork at 20 gold per unit , -1000 Gold

Neighbors
There's four provinces to the South and East of Windheath, also part of Apitula-the North is completely dominated by the Ice Trolls and other Ice Races, and to the West is the polar sea. Our trade is mostly food to our neighbors for gold, and supplies of hardwood shipped to Mellowbrook, to be sold back to us as furniture, cutlery and other consumer goods. Every now and again, a peaceful leader arises among the Ice People and trades with us as well, but they don't rule very long.

Dude.  You posted 30 seconds after mine.

How the hell did you type that fast, because you did respond to my stuff.

Edit:  You seem to be doing something very similar to my idea.  Yours is just more expanded.  I was going to discuss more into economy later, just wanted to see how you liked my point based labour/slave system.  That would only apply to my lower class.  Mid and upper would be specilized

Well, losing post after post to Data Heaven because the computer decided to freeze when I pressed post has lead me to do my writing on Jarte, then copy/paste it here. I don't have to worry about losing my work anymore!

So we basically posted the same thing.  Yours is just a little more free form.

We do need to price items for gold.

And also, will gold actually be an object, or is it just determining your wealth like a credit card.

How 1 population produces 5 units of goods? That would meet my goal of having the economy totally balanced at the start.

100 units of food=20 pop
75 units of Hardwood=15 pop
10 units of leather=2 Pop
10 units of herbs=2 pop
25 units of metal=5 pop
25 units of stone=5 pop

Also, Gold would physical, stored in our castle.

That works Adwarf-can you try and make a map of the province and our neighors? Use the information I put in the sample economy post, and make sure to put labels on everything, if you think and do it.

Okay.  The issue with making everything be the same is that it makes no sense.  It should be much harder to get metal than leather.

I had thought something out like this before, and I found the point system was the best way to manage leather.

P.S. perhaps it would be best if you generated a DF world for us to use as a map.

I don't think we will have castle maps.  It is way too much management.
