Wha...? Nobody can take a joke. The savescum was part of the joke. The siege happened though. That comment about sending her out with her baton of peace? that happened. Some gory shit happened there. Either way, there was no savescum, and there was no lie. Just a joke.

Just got it two years ago, gave it to my militia commander, and he's been kicking ass, never been touched... when he decides to go fight...

I think its symbolic: The dwarf getting struck down is my first death in this fort, to a lucky goblin thief. He is the saint. My militia commander? Well he is the priest bringing down divine retribution on the goblins for that act of martyrdom.

Lead is marginally heavier than Silver. Gold is heavier than both. Platinum is *the* heaviest metal in Dwarf Fortress.

I'm actually starting to get a bit weary of the forum's worship of platinum as being a little cheaty, since platinum really is a bit too soft to be useful as a hammer, though Iridium on the other hand is slightly denser and much harder, particularly when alloyed with platinum.
However, i also read on wikipedia that "The amount of energy delivered to the target by the hammer-blow is equivalent to one half the mass of the head times the square of the head's speed at the time of impact (E={mv^2 \over 2}). While the energy delivered to the target increases linearly with mass, it increases geometrically with the speed ."
So a heavier denser hammer really isn't as lethal as a lighter one with a longer handle and a stronger harder head.
In reality a steel pick would be much dwarfier and more lethal.

In reality you can also simply add MORE metal if your hammer isn't heavy enough. You can use a platinum hammer, but you can also use a steel one of the same weight, which still would be harder.

I'd wish a hammer had a "fixed weight" so the best material would still be good, hard steel - not glittery platinum. Though bashing someone with valuable metals sounds nice.
