Ok, shimmelfenig is confirmed, researched and found out the 1st  PA reg is an element of the 74th PA infantry.

Also I've got the first Union orders. The Confeds I had yesterday, so I will begin to 'run' this now!

*also for new people; check the first post for some basic info on rules, beginning troop numbers, taken leaders etc.

This is the map I'll use as a reference for armies. I will say relative to this the armies position to commanders.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also I placed this in the first post.

Declare Martial Law in Maryland and ready the navy for a blockade of all Southern ports.

Did I do that right?  Should I be delivering speeches... what should I be doing as President exactly?

I won't model navy battles (I will report on historic ones) but I will factor in the blockade you just ordered.
I will however be offering the use of the navy in several instances. Such as the peninsular campaign in 1862.

Sure you can make speeches :D more for flavor than anything else, you must relate them to an event such as a recent battle etc though, you cannot just spew speeches in the hope for bonuses  :P. If its a good speech, you will get a moral rise. I will judge a speech based on its relevance and 'to the point' nature. This is not necessary tho, it will only be a small bonus. So don't go out of your way to do one!
Every year starting this year, rebel industry will drop by 25
You can do whatever really, the main thing would be prodding commanders to achieve what you want to achieve, calling a draft if and when you want(very unpopular).
The maryland thing is extremely good, as they were notoriously pro-rebel.
Also you are the one who gets to choose what to build, how many 1000's of troops to recruit etc. The list of current 'buildings' is on the first page.
Industry may be subject to events, but you cannot improve it yourself. This represents each sides industrial power not the number of factories or the output of them.

Also, I will be adding an option for lincoln to emancipate the slaves on it soon. And recruit blacks into the army.

Industry and manpower are YEARLY figures, there may be lump sum adjustments, or specific increases based on events but in general use it wisely, as you wont get any more until april 1862.

(Every year starting this year, rebel industry will drop by 20units)

*to those not privy to army orders, its beginning to kick off now. I forsee the first battle soon so don't fret!

The beginning

In Washington, Abraham Lincoln is planning for a quick victory to defeat the rebels before they gather momentum.
Mcdowell, a competant commander seeks to achieve this. There is little belief the rebels can hold out for long. One short sharp battle may end this rebellion for good.
Second Lieutenant G. A. Custer is part of several scouting operations in northern Virginia, he is anxious to get in the fight and make a few cavalry charges.

On the Confederate side, James Longstreet has been advising the Confederate army in strategy and successfully so. Their goal is to maintain their army and defeat the Union, buying time to consolidate their new nation and form a long term defence. Mosby has seen little action yet, but believes his chance will come sooner or later for glory.

Both sides are confident of victory, both sides see the war as ending soon and both sides hope casualties will be low in the decisive battle that is coming.

Some info

Abraham Lincoln

“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic cords of memory will swell when again touched as surely they will be by the better angels of our nature.”
Previously an Illinois state legistator, lincoln rose to become the 16th president of the USA. He was far from the safe candidate, despised in the south, but none the less won the election of 1860. A steady abolitionist, he however claimed to not touch slavery where it existed, in order to placate those fearing the abolition of slavery.

George Armstrong Custer

An energetic cavalry officer, graduated last in his class at west point. Vain and impetuous he plans to make his name heard in the world.

Irwin Mcdowell

A competent but inexperienced leader, gained his command of the Union army mostly because of his connections in Washington. He is pushed regularly by Lincoln to put an end to this rebellion, and quickly.

James Longstreet

One of the many Civil War Generals whom fought with distinction in the Mexican war of 1847, Longstreet is one of the most competent commanders in the Confederate army.

John Singleton Mosby

With little to distinguish him as the war begins, he does however have a varied and glorious and hidden future in him. His commander JEB Stuart is already impressed with his ability to gather intelligence.

Thomas J. Jackson

A fiery zealot, previously a teacher at the Virginia Military Institute shows great skill and great promise in the war.
