The American Civil War East
« on: July 05, 2011, 09:47:33 pm »

Well, it was the anniversary of Gettysburg recently and I thought I would do this. This is not technically a game as such, more as an interactive delve into history. You can pick a person, to be, and be them. In a role play nature you will gain skills and rank etc based on performance.

Only player characters will be modeled, I.E, if we have 1 player who takes General Sickles of the Union army, only engagements in which Sickles was involved will be modeled closely. However there will be a simple strategic element.

The Union
Popular support 10/10
1000 War Industry
200 manpower(+10 a year#nodraft)
Characters
Irwin Mcdowell(Leading Union forces)
Skills(Placeholder)
Troops 30,000
Moral: Medium
Army camps: 1
Players
bdthemag - Irwin Mcdowel of the Union Army Command East
Phantom - Private Jacob Parott of Andrews Raiders Apr 1862
Adwarf - Second Lieutenant George Armstrong Custer of the 2nd U.S. Cavalry start
Dwarmin - General Philip Henry Sheridan of the *division commander* July 3 1863(Tullahoma campaign)
V-Norrec - Abraham Lincoln
Ghazkull - General Alexander Schimmelfennig of the 1st Pennsylvania German Regiment(Element of the 74th PA Infantry) - Mar 1862
USEC_Officer - George Meade of the

The Confederacy
Popular support 10/10
300 War Industry(-20 a year from blockade)
200 manpower(+0 a year#nodraft)
Characters
P. G. T Beauregard(Leading Confederate forces)
Skills(Placeholder)
Troops 20,000
Moral: High
Supplies 10
Army camps: 1
Players
Deadmeat - T. J. Jackson of the 1st Brigade
WraithLord24 - James Longstreet of the Forth Brigade
Detonate - John Singleton Mosby of the First Virginia Cavalry under the command of JEB Stuart

Rules

-recruit and arm 1000 more men costs 20 manpower and 100 industry points. (can be done as many times as you have army camps)
-create army camp costs 200 industry points and 10 manpower.
-create 1 supply point, 50 industry and 10 manpower.
-every 10,000 troops use 1 supply each month.
-each major city captured from the enemy requires a garrison (1000 men) or it will revolt and cut the armies supply line.
-commanders can control armies. General military rules will be taken into account, river crV-Norrec - Abraham Lincolnossings, marching, surprise attacks, scouting etc.
-entrenchment can be made, it takes 10 days for every 1 point of fortification
The maximum fortification that can be done is equal to the game year(1861 = 1 1864 = 4)
each level represents a better level of fortification, 1 being barricades, 5 being redoubts.
cities count as being already 1 fort level.
-marching speed - 10 miles a day [slow], 20 m/d[regular] 30m/d[fast] 40m/d[extreme]
smaller groups of troops will move faster, as will units with a leader who is known for quick marching(such as Jackson). This also works negative, as with McClellan being a cautious advancer. Slower advances mean less chance of being ambushed. Faster means more, judge the risk or cost against your needs.

The level of control: You can choose where the armies maneuver, you cannot free the slaves as the confederacy. You can control the tactical positions pre a major battle. You can control the unit you have in a battle. Commanders(Lee, Grant etc) cannot command forces, they merely decide the grand strategy of the battle. You can play Abe Lincoln and Jeff Davis(you control production etc).
*more to come

The strategic map for reference
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Events:
April 12, 1861 Fort Sumter surrenders to the confederacy, the civil war has begun.
-both sides start with 200 manpower from volunteer enlistments

Can we choose anyone from the history of the era? This sounds like it could be interesting.

Some ideas for characters:

Confederate:

R. E. Lee
The great confederate leader of the war, begins as a commander of local militia.

Johnston
A high level commander after Beauregard(IIRC)

T. J. Jackson
Probably the greatest, most audacious leader of the war.

J. Longstreet
A prominent and solid corps commander of the war.

J. B. Hood
Another good commander

*many more!

Union

McClellan
One of the most prominent early commanders, though not one of the best.

Pope
Meade
Hooker
Burnside
All leaders of the eastern union army at some point.

J. L. Chamberlain
Professor come soldier, fights the entire war and wins the medal of honor at Gettysburg for defending the flank from a heavy Confederate attack.

Grant
Later commander of the Union army, probably the best union commander of the civil war.

*many more!

Pick anyone from any level, brigade or so. Google around if you want more!

Come on, he didn't die in the Civil War, but those damn...

Actually, let's skip forward to the La Drang valley. Yep, the regiment Custer served in performed quite well.

All right, I'll claim, General Philip Henry Sheridan
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Sheridan

He was riding a desk for the first year of the war, apparently, so you can bring me in 1862.

I chose him because when he narrowly avoided being killed by rebel artillery, he said something like.

That's damn ungenerous! I shall take those guns for that!

And everyone should remember him as a badass.

You get Second Lieutenant George Armstrong Custer of the 2nd U.S. Cavalry. Later promoted to captain.
