Traveller - A Roleplaying journey

Info

I'm doing a kind of jokey game of MegaTraveller with a friend. If you've never heard of this...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveller_%28role-playing_game%29#Character_creation
It's my favorite roleplay rules i've found.

Well its not a proper Rp game, its basicly me GM'ing a friends journey. Currently we just finished character creation. More or less.
I thought some people might like a basic summery of what happens, the game is brutally realistic.

The next posts will be a summery of the characters journey thus far. You are all welcome to correct me if I made a mistake on creation or if you have an idea of something to put my friend through! I'm a very poor GM and do it very rarely.

Also youre welcome to create a NPC, you don't even need the rules just a basic story of the guy and what he is and does and thats all. The NPC must have a proper name though, john smith for example. No bay12 names.

The military service of Ben Nilson

Ben is a very intelligent, educated and fairly well off young man from [planet not generated yet!].
Upon leaving school Ben decided he wished apply to join the Navy. For his whole life he planned for this and he is now in a position to apply for a place in the Naval Academy at the capital.
He spent hours and weeks writing his application, then sending it off to be approved or denied. It was approved! he shipped out a week later to begin.

After 4 years he finally graduated from the Naval Academy as an officer in the Imperial fleet.
He then transfered to a destroyer and went through his initial training for the position. After which he was assigned as a staff officer for 1 year. He served poorly, but when his term was up re-enlisted and was given a command as a Line Officer.

The destroyer was then posted to an asteroid belt where pirated had been raiding convoys. The destroyer was envolved in an engagement with a captured pirate destroyer and suffered some casualties.
Ben was wounded as the engagement began, being knocked unconscious by the shockwave of a shell from the pirate destroyer breaching the hull and broke both his legs when a beam collapsed.
He was pulled out to safety by a fellow shipmate but when the battle was concluded and the pirates struck their colours, he was discharged from the Navy at age 24.

He was given a membership to the Travelers aid(free transport passes each year) and gained intelligence from his service. Also he learnt several skills relating to his time in service, communications, piloting small craft(ships boat) and bribery.

His next focus will be on how he will make money, improve himself or get employment. Disgruntled from his mediocre performance in the navy, now rehabilitated he plans to approach the dark side of society for employment. Possibly related to drug smuggling.

*note, I will try and improve the quality of the writing in the future, this was just a summery quickly written out.

**also, I will not be using the stock background story of traveler, only the rules. The story will be purely my/our own.

Interlude - Martian Heist

As an interlude and to practice/learn the combat rules..... I am doing a small story. Does anyone want to volunteer to join a Martian Police Department? I don't really need anyone, but if you're interested.

I moved this from creative to here because I asked for potential 'players' to participate.
Looking for someone to take a Army character, who will later join the PD.

I love the traveller system. I have as much fun in character creation than the actual game, and Police have the BASIC chargen!
And NO lol. Not a GREEN Martian, a human in a colonized mars! I'll put you down as this army guy.

Wow... I wonder what sort of stuff he's actually doing for those terms of service.
Is he invading enemy bases with a crack team of comrades, chucking grenades left and right whilst chewing a cigar?
Or is he mowing down defenceless refugees trying to get off a nuked planet? :P

Your record says the Cigar, the reality is the refugees.  :P

Ok i'm going to give your army guy a quick tour in the police, and then go.

If anyone wants to play aswell, I don't mind expanding this into a little campaign. It is incredibly free form though. You could be anything you wish.

A list of stock occupations:
army
navy
marines
belter
bureaucrat
merchant
noble(not a choice, but a result of a high roll in social attribute)
pirate
diplomat
doctor
flyer
hunter
rogue
sailor
scientist
scout

*note, you wont be able to just choose what you want. I will roll 3 stats and you can pick from those, then choose the career of your choice. I will then run the career and see how well you do, asking for input if the situation demands it(choosing skills etc).

I have no idea how to actually play this game, but it's just fun to watch my character get uncluded in your campaign. :) Does my guy still need a proper name? I'd be happy to join in if he survives this whole martian heist business. :P
