can't make rock pots
« on: July 04, 2011, 11:00:02 pm »

I have the workshop, and a dwarf with all the crafts skills and the stoneworking skills, and I can't make any rock pots. I click q, take the cursor to the shop, click in stone crafts, and I have musical instruments, mugs, small sword, and crafts, but no rock pots. Help it's the first game that's going ok since my first fun ever!

Sometimes dwarven civs don't get a certain weapon or armor, could this affect tools?

I just downloaded the game a couple of days ago, but I'm, using the Bentgirder tutorial map, could it be this the cause?

Quite possibly, pots wouldn't work if the map was created before the .19 update. I would suggest creating a new world and starting a fortress to see if you can make pots there.

I think that's the cause, because in the other worlds I created I can make pots alright, also, my hunter in this map refuse to go auto hunting, I don't know if I needed to do something in previous version to force him to go hunting? I have hunting dogs and everything...

Well, I guess I will start again a new world and see how that goes.

At first I thought you said rock pets. That's a thread I could have gotten into.

On this note: Does anyone know of a mod for pet rocks? Just curious.

You could train all your microcline to strike back.

Genius, Now I'm a firm believer that any regular fantasy setting needs to have a few mythical creatures made of rock, like colossus, bur Rock Lion, Rock Tiger.

Imagine having a rock tiger, giving him some steel fangs, and sending it to guard your entrance

It's relatively easy to mod in creatures made of rock. If I remember right, it's just a matter of copying whatever you want to make a rock-animal version of, replacing normal tissue tag mentions with rock-tissue ones and just mess around with the description of the creature. If you bother. That description step isn't necessary so eh.

Rock is pretty decent, but against armed enemies(besides elves what with their wooden weapons) they tend to get shattered and chopped apart.

"This is a microcline fluffy wambler."

Imagine mining, and your miner coming across that when he mines out a wall.

Or "This is a Microline Collosuss. It has fists of Adamantine."

That would kill a well prepared fort off!!

Nah, cotton candy fists wouldn't be so bad.

Platinum fists, however ...

I'm pretty sure raw mineral creatures would be pretty easy to defeat with proper weapons. Stuff made from weapon-grade metals tends to chop things up good.

Although it does raise a question to a past experience of mine: A horn silver humanoid that steel weapons glanced right off without fail. Maybe my dorfs weren't strong enough? Or maybe horn silver has better resistance tags than normal silver?

But yeah, platinum fists would hurt like hell if they connect.
