I have chosen the embark. Sandy desert with some soil, shallow and deep minerals, and a few trees. Transition soon.

Agree'd, But a suggestion towards growth of writing, envision yourself as the character. And discribe what you see and feel, you had something there with the emotion.

This might have been more colorful:

Sand, all I can see is sand for miles. I've been walking for days and all I see is, more sand.
In frustration I lash out by kicking some smallish stones, something caught my eye as one of them twinkled in the sunlight.
Stooping low to pick it up "Oy, and what may you be?" Whatever it is sure is better then blasted sand.
Pocketing it as a souvenir and started walking to... Ah hell I'm just making my home at the first place I find.

Not the best on my part but it's only a rewrite of your log, and a writing example. We all start somewhere right?

Hey just remember the suggestion of being the character, how would you feel in the situation. And I have no idea if you will be chopping wood.

I'm fine with that, I might have to hold out on the side story for 2morrow since it's a friends bday party tonight. But after that I should be able to make the sidestory stand on its own.

I figured out (I believe) how to upload and download the succession fortress. But I'm still confused on how to install the mod (where is the "Dwarf Fortress.exe" file at). Also do I really need the graphics?

I'm so new to this.  :(
