How is it that our defenses are in such disarray?

When I left the fortress all that was left to be done was link a lever (I had already built) to to an isolation bridge (I had already built) in the trapped entryway (I built) to completely isolate the fort from nonflying surface invaders.

And I left detailed instructions:

Welcome to the jungle...


Top of the Keep. The Tower goes up another level or so and is by no means completed. I am leaving the center of the tower empty to boost our undead leather industry or ease a later refit for a magma pump stack.


Middle level of the Keep


Ground level. The bridge is linked to a lever in the dining hall and the lever is linked to nothing. It was placed in preparation of an atom smasher I decided not to build once I realized zombie bits = leather.



This bridge isn't linked (I think). I built the lever but never linked it (I think). If it's not linked, it's probably a good thing to do soon.



This is the first of two full corridors of cage traps.



WHen the courtyard is completed I was planning to have the archer towers to not use the main access(in green). So I made separate staircases for them (in red).



I included this picture so you could see the caver isolation wall, the ramps up to the courtyard and the ramps down to the fort. Also I thought it looked a little like a pistol. So hey.

Our miners are...um...enthusiastic. You need to wall this breach to ensure safety for the main fort.

Lots of stuff going on on this level. We have three separate access points to the fortress and they are all on this level. At the top is a hatch (keep it locked unless you are hunting, etc). At the bottom you see the entrance to the switchbacks of doom. In the middle to the right is a hatch that offers access to water.

In yellow are levers for the bridges topside. The one that is active is for the bridge on the ground level of the keep. The one that is inactive is for the bridge in the first layer of the switchback and is probably not linked.

In peach are the components of the food industry.

In purple is the workout room.

In green is a bunch of random stockpiles.

In light blue are levers that operate the floodgates for the drowning depot on he level below.

There is also a hatch to dump things in the magma.



This level has the obsidian farm. The levers are laid out spatially. The center and left floodgate levers aren't linked. I was reserving the one on the left for magma safe floodgates and the one in the center to operate all of the floodgates at once.



I built a bunch of mason and craftsdwarf workshops to mass produce stuff for trade and to clear the room.

Here also is the danger room. The lever operates the spike traps.



Another instance of over-zealous miners. They will notify you they find copper ore every time they turn a corner and see the same copper ore wall from a different angle, but mums the word when they drill straight into the side of a vein of cotton candy.

It ended well. So I suppose no screaming hordes of pustulent death, no foul.

yeeaaaah it was kind of my own stupidity on that one I tride to remove thouse twoo extranuis ramps leading to the top platue. in order to do this I had to let the dwarf out. So i removed a wall section. then nobody ever removed it becuse the were all ordered to stay inside which I din't know becuse I don't use burows. so urks got in and slaughtered the military and a fair number of civilions which trigured a tamtrum spirel then the skellitle kobolds came and it just kept geting wours. curent dwarf count: 27

I have lost more dwarfs today then in all the other forts i've run combind. but we are holfing at 21 dwarfs

GAAAAH I TOLD YOU ABOUT THOSE!

Note that the dwarves are assigned to an 'inside' burrow that stop them from going outside when triggered in the alerts screen. Expand the 'inside' burrow when any new rooms are dug out, and add any migrants to the lists.

Also please note that 'bizerk' is actually 'berserk' in this case.

I'm also really hoping to release V3.0a of Regeneration. Were Acid/Poision and paper/parchment and ink and book making are in. As well as a ton of bug fixes. Saddlt no new creatures/civs as of yet.

And I am praying for those poor dwarves... The Professor only wanted to bring magma to Portalpriests. Instead put them through time to this frozen hell, shame if It ended here.

if we can just survive until kopout is done, we'll be able to escape. Also, I won't force you to do this hugo, but I think it's only appropriate that you write how the teleportation scene happens. You did awesome last time! Oh, and you don't have to write a long scene either.

Your mission, Kopout, should you wish to accept it, will be to construct said portal. You can just remove some of the wall-building stairs if you wish and replace them with a portal frame- obsidian preferred. That, or use some flat area, put elaborate patterns of walls in it, and fill that area with magma.

I know, it slipped my mind 
And thanks for the spelling tip. My home computer has a spell check built into the browser but can't run DF, the school computer runs DF but doesn’t have a spell check built into the browser. If it bothers you two much I could copy every post into word and use the spell check there then copy it back. I did that with this one by the way.
I actually have a structure set up with a walled in magma pool and stairs leading up on one side. If I change the stairs to lead down could that work as a portal?

If this fort survives long  enough I can do that. Just PM and the save then I can have a look see at the carnage and begin writing. Also the next World would be good too, I'll transport all Named Dwarves (and maybe a few unnamed) hopefully I can get all the genders right.

The skeletal goblin continues to terrorize the fortress. There is also a fire imp in the magma forge room. Aperently it got in through one of 'kopout's projects. A magma pump or some such. Even when he's dead that bastard torments us.

most of the survivers arn't named. the only one with a nickname that is an actual name is 'David' Nebeluzol the miner the rest just have numbers, even the mayor. although I just changed '002 stone' Nikatol to 'Mayor stone' Nikatol becuse he is the mayor.

Good news! Apernetly the fire imp and the goblin are fighting each other now. In other news I have set up to construct a portal out of this hell hole. It will be built from Granite blocks along the west wall of the magma room. Gods save us all.
